NO CONCEALED CARRY. If you're planning to make it a decent second date, better drink heavily. YMMV. Correct, Hobby Center is posted. Not quite sure if its full size lettering or not but it has markings. As for restaurants..... unless you're willing to walk 4-5 blocks there isn't much that's within walking distance that I can think of. However about that distance away, Sambuca is good, as is Azuma for Japanese. Those are both located in the Rice hotel building. Beiraporetis or however it's spelled is popular with the theater crowd and italian. Best parking for the Hobby Center is in the structure behind it, its between it and the bayou. |
| There are only a few restaurants in the immediate area of the hobby center are some are located at Bayou Place where Mingalone Italian Grill and Hard Rock Cafe are. You might have to travel to other parts of downtown for more options. The Houston pavilions http://www.houstonpavilions.com/ has McCormick & Schmick's, Guadalajara and House of Blues. They are located along Dallas between Fannin and Caroline. For good overall atmosphere/scenery, consider the Grove restaurant in Discovery Green park. http://www.thegrovehouston.com/ |

It was a great evening. Since the musical was Cabaret with lots of scantily clad showgirls I went with the Strip House steakhouse to match the theme. The filet mignon, salad and desert were excellent. The musical was very funny, she loved it.
Warning: there are dude butts and a ton of gay characters/references in Cabaret, but its more than offset by the hot showgirls and the laughs. |
