What's everyone here think of them? I have carried an E2D for years, and think it is a great light. Was thinking about an X-300 or X-400 weaponlight for my nighttime
nightstand weapon (Glock-22). I have Surefire Rails on both my 16" and 20" AR's, and think they are high quality and really nice looking accessory rails. |

Surefire is the only way to fly for weaponlights. That's kind of like saying Colt is the only way to fly for AR rifles... OP, you might post an inquiry (or just poke around a little bit) in the Lights & Lasers Forum - You're guaranteed to get plenty of opinions! |

I love Surefires. I have a few and use them for everything, whether its around the house, working on the car or for my home defense light. I try to seperate them though and use my C2 Centurion LED strictly for my carry/home defense light.
I use my Surefire 6P LED for just about everything around the house. With 80 lumens and 11 hour battery life, you wonder how you ever got by with the cheap crap they sell at stores which use C/D sized batteries. ETA: They sell diffuser attachments for Surefires which spread the light and make them more useful for around the house. |

I have a Surefire X-300 on my duty weapon and dont know how i ever lived without it before. Its an absolute must on any defensive handgun.
I wasnt aware that there was an X-400 now though.... unless you're just talking about an X-300 with a laser bulit in. I have heard that the x-300 is brighter than the 200 but with a more focused beam and that the x-200 has less lumens but that its more of a diffuse broad beam. somebody told me that the x-200 is better as a home defense light and the x-300 is a better patrol weapon light. Also, i LOVE the surefire X-300 but its worth noting that the streamlight TL-2 is significantly brighter. You should look into those too. They are great lights if you dont plan on puttin a tape or pressure switch on your gun. I dont think the TL-2 is set up to accept tapeswitches. I have long fingers but my HK USP .45 is too big for me to comfortably reach the button on the back of the X-300 so i use a pressure switch on the grip. also if you're blastin sombody in your house at night i can almost guarantee you that a laser wont be needed. Im thinking close quarters, rapid engagement, short duration type of stuff. My surefire X-300 has such a tight beam that I honestly think if i had to engage a person within 10 yards, i would center the beam on their chest and use that as a rapid firing reference. I have found through simunitions practice that in spite of all my target practice which is centered around using my sights... I still shoot reflexively under stress anyway and i think the light would help you stay on target better. |

also, be advised, bright is good. TOO bright is bad.
If you are dead asleep with your eyes adjusted to dark and you wake up in the middle of the night and grab your handgun, you're not going to want a 5,000 lumen aircraft landing light on the front of your gun to clear the house because the perp AND you will both be blind. I use some brighter lights to clear houses on patrol but thats only because my eyes are usually already pretty blasted before i get into the house by my car headlights, all the lights in the interior of the car, streetlights, responding dummies that shine their lights at me, backlight me, ect. Even then it can still be overpowering when using a 200-250 lumen light to clear a house. You dont always need something super dooper bright, sometimes all it takes is something with a good wide diffuse beam to help you see around. Really it just needs enough light for you to ID a target or anything that the target is holding in its hands/doing. |

I recommend the Streamlight TLR-1 if you don't need a laser or want to run a tapeswitch. I own 4 Surefires. A G2, G2L, E2D and a $200 100 lumen L5 Lumamax. I bought a TLR-1 on a whim and man it blows all my Surefires away. Its rated at 135 lumen with 2.5 hour runtime. I was amazed at how much brighter it was than even my L5, so much so that I ordered the tapeswitch and back plate and switched it from my G19 and mounted it on my DDM4. You can also find the TLR-1 on sale sometimes for around $80 shipped from OMB police supply, I piad $98 for mine. I highly recommend it. Edited to add, Suitable for handgun, rifle or shotgun use - Waterproof to 66 feet - Delivers up to 135 lumens -Up to 2.5 hrs continuous run time. - Solid- state current regulation for consistent illlumination level. - Ambidextrous momentary/on-off switch - Features secure latching base for secure mounting (Universal & Picatinny mount) - Fits all light-bearing holsters - “No Excuses” Life Time Warranty - Uses two CR123A's 3v lithium batteries (included) - 4.18 oz. with batteries http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/P5160003-1.jpg http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/P5160007-1.jpg ]The TLR-1's are not as good as the Surefires in my opinion. I'm required to use a TLR-1 on my duty pistol (both agency issued) and have had one since 2006. Out of 180 or so TLR's our agency purchased 3 we're not working out of the box and 3 broke during low light transition training (all were LED failures). Streamlight took care of them under warranty, tho. Most of my experience w/Surefires are with the X200's - on personal guns and a couple of Officers in neighboring agencies carrting them. Only X200 issue I've heard of was a mount breaking on the light (warranty repair). YMMV |
