87% hu? How many of those know how to shoot? How many will pick up a gun and kill U.S. Servicemen? How many will be willing to die for the cause? Most important once the shooting starts how many will shit their pants, sell there guns and move to Massachusetts? Most are probably thinking of the legal bloodless kind. I have met a lot of native Texans who are of the firm belief that Texas has a right to secede from the US. However, from a practical stand point, if Texas did, where where would the troops come from? The majority of our combat troops are deployed around the world. Would you form a draft? How many people from other states would want to give up their lives to keep Texas as part of the US? Even if they were here and available, do you think the current administration would have the fortitude to use them? Do you think Texans would get no international backing? Most every country in the world would love for us to fragment into several nations and would rally behind the freedom of the native people to chose their own future. Personally I am an American before I am a Texan. I hope that we wouldn't secede in the near future; we still have time to fix our problems as a unified nation instead of run from them. |

I moved here from my home state of Iowa in 1998. I used to miss Iowa. I returned to Iowa last year from April -December by my family/parents then returned to Texas in December and brought my GF back from Iowa with me.
I am an American first. Some people are born in Texas and had no choice in the matter. I moved here by personal choice and returned here by personal choice. I have no desire to live in any other state including Iowa. With the liberal BULLSHIT running the USA into the ground including Iowa I have to say I sometimes think maybe Texas should leave the union also. Better to die poor and free then being some corrupt government prick's poor ass licking lapdog. |

Most important once the shooting starts how many will shit their pants, sell there guns and move BACK to Massachusetts? Fixed it for you. I know what bullets sound like going by. Kinda peaceful. ![]() In reality, I don't believe Texas would actually leave the union. But we could. |

Well to think of it looking at all the AR15.com members that are Texans I would have to say we would present a sizable force of AR15 totin civilians. But I think Gov. Perry is just pushing for votes since re-election is on its way.
What I really want to know is if we split from the union, how many other states join us? Would it be Red vs. Blue???? |

and technically the TEXAS Army National Guard, TEXAS Air National Guard and TEXAS Stage Guard are under the order or Gov. Rick Perry and the Adjutant General , not POTUS.
"The Texas State Guard (TXSG) is one of three branches of the Texas Military Forces (TXMF), reporting to The Texas Adjutant General located at Texas Military Forces HQ, Camp Mabry (Austin), Texas. The Commander in Chief of the Texas Military Forces is the Governor of Texas. The other two branches are the Texas Army National Guard (TXARNG) and the Texas Air National Guard (TXANG)". http://www.agd.state.tx.us/ |

My wife is a native Texan though. FWIW, I voted for secession... I may be an American, but I just don't think the central part of the country has much in common with the liberal west coast and northeast. If we could get rid of them we'd be much better off. |

what is the percentage of military from Texas? I have anecdotal evidence that says a lot. In the USMC, it seems 15-20% of us were from Texas. I bet over 50% would be sympathetic to the cause, and yes we talked about it.
when my way of life is threatened, yes I'll do what is necessary....and I know alot more who will too. |

Texan first, American 2nd.
I read somewhere that legally Texas retained the right to secede from the union as part of a condition to join the union or rejoin the union.....I'll have to look that up though, so don't quote me. /Sarcasm on/ I'm not saying we should or shouldn't, but it doesn't look like the US' Gov't is listening to the poeple nor showing any modicum of gumption nor desire to make things better. Spend, spend, spend! Tax, tax, tax! Borrow, Borrow, Borrow! Dig a grave, dig a grave! I think I'll start checking the real estate listings for "Country for sale! Builders Special!" Maybe we could secede, and then back the U.S. so then Texan would be up there with other Countries, whos' names shall not be spoken, that OWN us. /Sarcasm off/ ETA: heres a site http://www.texassecede.com/faq.htm |

Most important once the shooting starts how many will shit their pants, sell there guns and move to Massachusetts? What makes you think that many wouldn't join the Texas side? Take a look at Hood and Bliss - most of the troops live there with their families. Quite a few who get stationed there decide to stay after they ETS. I wouldn't be surprised if a significant portion of Army and Air Force AD - even those not stationed in Texas - decided to stay with Texas... And I doubt that if the situation ever arose Texas would be alone in leaving the union. That being said, I trust the Rasmussen poll showing 18% support for secession rather than a junk online poll showing the reverse. It's nice to daydream, but it isn't happening anytime soon. But if it does... I just hope the Texas military forces go multicam. |

I thought the Governor only controlled the state reserves in peace time. States pulling from the Union doesn't exactly seem like a peacetime situation.

The National Guard (Army and Air) are under the command of the Governor of the state unless they are placed on Title 10 (federal) orders. If a state secedes, then Title 10 doesn't mean anything, does it? I'm pretty sure everyone would just laugh if the USG tried to put them on Title 10 after secession... A seceding Texas would have quite a bit of military force right off the bat - all of the Texas National Guard, Army and Air, and I'd bet a nut that quite a few of the units at Ft Hood, Ft Bliss, and the AFBs at San Antonio would decide to stay with Texas. The Army Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Coast Guard and USCG Reserve, and Navy Reserve are technically federal troops, but they are (except USCG) full time civilians and part time soldiers, sailors, and airmen with families and jobs here in Texas - do you think they're going to leave? Not likely... So we'd likely end up with quite a few military forces right off the bat. Texas has a huge chunk of the nation's military forces stationed here, even aside from reserve and national guard forces, and many of those forces would likely stay. They live here. In addition to that, I have a sneaky suspicion that quite a few freedom loving trigger pullers from other states would flock to the new Republic in its defense, as many did in its first war for independence. And any crazy ass who wanted to live NFA free... Of course none of this is going to happen. But it's fun to think about. |
