Hey all -

I'm new to TX. I have a MO CHL but since I've moved I need to start going through the process to get a TX CHL. I'm hoping folks here might have a good recommendation on instructors? I want to take a class from someone that is good and not from someone that is just going through the motions. I hope that makes sense.

I've been reading around and haven't found an answer to one question. Since I've literally only been in TX for a few days, does anyone know for certain if there is a minimum time you must live in the state prior to getting a CHL?

I live in northern Dallas. Thanks for the help!

EDIT: Perhaps I should quantify this a bit more, I'm the kind of student that takes notes and asks A LOT of questions to make sure I completely understand what I'm being taught. I seem to piss off some folks with all of my questions.

Welcome to Texas,

You can get a non-resident license now or wait 6 months for a Texas one.  They both give you the same carry privileges.  Go to the Texas Department of Public Safety website––>concealed Handgun Section––>click on the link under additional information for handgun statutes and related weapons laws.  The Eligibility requirements are in section 411.172.  It will direct you to 411.173 for the nonresident information.

I'm a CHL instructor in Fort Worth.  I do small group and individual classes.  I'm a public school teacher and do the handgun classes on the side.  I'm available  most weekends and with summer coming up I'll be available during the week as well.

Best of luck,

Steve
