Texas gov. rejects stimulus money for unemployment
By MONICA RHOR Associated Press Writer Economic Stimulus 2009 HOUSTON (AP) –– Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Thursday rejected $555 million in federal stimulus money that would expand state unemployment benefits, saying the money would have required the state to keep funding the expanded benefits after the stimulus money ran out. well played Rick!! |
| Yeah, I've heard much of the money in the Obama save the world stimulus bill that was directed at keeping/creating new jobs was only for 1 year, after that the states/local governments would have to foot the bill. So unless the states are willing to take on more spending and debt, those jobs will be short lived. |

Good political move, especially for the upcoming primary. Little Katie won't have a chance. Of course it would have been better if he rejected the whole damn thing! Now if Chuck gets in the race all bets are off. Chuck wants to run for president of Texas, not gov :) |

After the first year grant money was gone, all those new cops would need to be paid by the local town/city government, so it became more of a burden to those towns instead of a solution. That's my recollection, anyway. |
