So it turns out me shipping HazMat stuff (primers) is more difficult than I expected.  Is there someone or someplace I can take my box of primers who can ship them for me?  Someone with all the paperwork and training that UPS/FedEx requires?

What part of TX are you? How soon do you have to ship this out?

Primers should be ORM-D (Other regulated material), so you would just need a sturdy box (Of course, I don't have an IATA manual with me...So that is just an educated guess).
You will also need 3 copies of a shippers declaration of dangerous goods correctly filled out. The box can't weigh more than 66 pounds and has to be marked with certain information.

The problem is that the Govt requires anyone shipping dangerous goods to have training before they offer DG for transport, and the penalties for improper paperwork can be up to 5 years in jail and 34,500.00 in fines.

Training classes run anywhere from 1,000 to 1,500.00 for a three day class.  Wanna ask me how I know all this? 8^)

I would like to ship it within days.  I had actually made a sale (at a nice profit), then checked first with UPS, then FedEX and discovered that I am not "qualified" to ship it.  I will have to refund this persons money if I cannot find a way around this, hopefully, and if its legal, by having someone ship it for me who has taken all the necessary classes.

I am in Dallas.

Dallas = good.
Next few days = bad.

I actually teach the class and live in Dallas, but I am currently in FL... Mostly f'in off, but I will not be back till mid April.

Maybe a guy that works in a shipping department might chime in and offer to help....Another option is to look in the yellow pages (does anyone actually do that anymore?) for a "freight forwarder". These people normally work close to an airport and they are trained and able to tender packages to shippers. They normally charge a fee... I have no idea how much.

I only mentioned the jail and fine bit.... To encourage you not to just box it up and not tell anyone and ship it. I have seen the FAA go apeshit on people... They can be worse than the ATF.

So does ammo need to go ORM-D also?

And HondaCiv, I'd be glad to help you with your problem.  Tell your buyer that you will refund their money and I'll take those small rifle primers off your hands for $25...

Yeah, just put them on EE for local FTF only, some one will buy them.  Dont post them for sale here, or it will get locked.  But you should let us know when they are posted, so we can go check, wink wink
