My packet with the guy here in Austin I renewed with is at my office, give me a call and I'll get it for you.
Plus of the guy I went with: cheap, good interesting class. Downside: the shoot part was way up north at Eagle Peak, and you have to buy a membership if you don't already have one. Also the fingerprinting was not done at the class, but I had it done at the DPS office... easy and you know it's done right. Can't recall the cost, don't think it was much. Also, right after you get your prints done you can drive a short distance and turn it in to the Austin CHL office (another DPS office). This saved me some time actually, because the lady looked it over and found that I forgot to sign the fingerprint card (!!). Did it on the spot and save it from coming back to me wasting all kinds of time. ... I think a guy advertises on Craigslist, check it out in sporting. If he does the class, shoot, pics and prints all at one place I'd go that route. (IM inbound) |

If you're 18 and want your CHL you'll have to have your mil ID, though I don't know if you 'll need it for the class. I used CHL Texas for my original class and for my recertification. Cost was $125 for the initial class and it includes fingerprints, pictures and dinner for the one day class.

Keep in mind that since the election, there have been numerous threads about classes being filled up for a while. |

im teaching a class next Saturday 1/31. if you are interested IM me and i can put you in contact with the guy coordinating it. it will be held in Austin.
also it is important to remember there may be a difference in who you take your class from. some guys are better instructors than others. i have heard horror stories about the conditions of the class (too hot, overcrowded, too cold, etc) as well as the quality of the instruction (monotone, guy reading out of a book, etc). one thing also to consider are the credentials of the guy teaching. yeah they all have CHL instructor certifications, but does he teach anything else? if you get into a shooting, that instructor is going to testify, hopefully on your behalf, in court. that is when that person's C/V comes into play. if the guy looks crazy or spouts off nonsense then remember the jury will think he represents YOU. also if he is otherwise unqualified, he will not be qualified to be an expert witness in court regarding use of force. i hold several instructor certifications, in both lethal and non-lethal force, and instruct private citizens, armed security, and law enforcement. just something to remember. it doesn't matter who you take the course from, but just remember when doing your research to see if you can get feedback about the particular instructor you'll be receiving instruction from. good luck. |
