Heritage gunshop in Austin.
Someone cut the alarm wires and made off with a huge number of pistols as well as AK and HK rifles sometime either yesterday or the night before. Third-hand info from a collector buddy in Austin, so I don't know if the specifics are accurate. I've dealt with shop in the past buying Springfield rifles and always found them to be great guys. |

If the info is correct, sometimes, I wonder WHY gun shops decide that gun safes are not needed to protect their investments? Are they immune to burglary? So Academy, Walmart, etc should lock up all their inventory every night in a safe? That's a ridiculous amount of work, and sounds like you're blaming the victim instead of the fuckhead robbers. Doc |

FYI, I talked to the owner this morning, and it's true. The fuckheads took a bunch of rifles and pistols. Tom said that their inventory was at a year long low, so there wasn't a whole lot. If anything hears anything, call APD. These fuckheads need prison time.
As far as security goes, for those who obviously don't know, there are bars and grates on the front windows and the back door is heavily reinforced. They tried to get in the back and gave up, so they broke the glass on the front door through the bars and either bent or cut the bars off the door so they could get in. They then unlocked the back. Motherfuckers. I'm pissed. Tom and Dick are some of the nicest people in the business, and people I consider to be my friends. Doc PS - Someone edit the title to "Heritage Firearms, Austin gunshop Burglarized" it took me a bit to find this thread. |

Quoted: Nope. I feel for the shop owners and I hope they catch these bastards. Doc But looking at the point of view of these bastards, you would agree that these shops are easier target than Academy or Walmart....And sometimes bars and grates are still not enough. Why do we advise our brothers/sisters-in-arms to have a good safe at home to protect their firearms, but not to our brothers/sisters-in-arms who happen to own a gun shop? |

Doc I was told 2 different times that academy does. knowing academy, could be bad info. bars on the windows would last less than 30 seconds with a chain and my truck. a safe.....indefinetely. just sayin I've had several dealings with heritage. good/honest people. sad they got hit. |

I wouldn't say they are easier, but they are definitely a target. Heritage seemed to be a fairly hardened target, IMO - but it just goes to show, no matter how much you defend something a determined intruder can always gain access. Even places with 24/7 security still get burglarized/robbed. I think most folks (including myself) advocate a safe at home because our homes are a pretty soft target in the general scheme of things. It's extremely simple to break a window and unlock a door - and a lot of places do not have an alarm. I personally am so paranoid I would never leave a firearm unsecured at home and ESPECIALLY not in a vehicle. It's on my hip or on my nightstand when I sleep, but that is all. Doc |

Where is "Heritage Guns", north, south Austin? Quoted:
183/Anderson Mill on the NW North East corner. Doc They're on the northbound side of 183 at Anderson Mill Rd. Yes, they are good people to deal with. Definately good people. I bought a glock 23 from them, years ago. I did always find it strange that they were wedged between a liquor store and a bank, though. It just seems like three businesses you want to keep a tad seperate, you know? Sorry to hear they got taken. |
