Hey guys. I just moved to Dallas from Austin about a month or so ago. Anyways, I'm going to get my roommate here into shooting/hunting and I need to help find him a rifle. I don't really know any stores in the area other than the DFW Public range that I went and shot at the other day. Any stores in the uptown Dallas area or nearby with a decent rifle selection? He wants to spend around $800-$1200 for the rifle and glass, so you know of anywhere with a decent selection in the mid priced range? Maybe I'll see if I can steer him towards a nice black rifle

I'm just trying to help, but I'm not all that familiar because most of my guns are purchased online or from individuals.

I'd say check out the fun shows or local retailers (below) to see what he likes, then find it online for cheaper and order it.

You can check Bass Pro, Cabela's, Academy, etc.

There are two sources that come to mind:

1. Our very own Robbie from Lone Star Wholesale. He carries RRA, Bushmaster, DPMS and Stag Arms. He usually only does the gun shows, but sometimes he'll meet up with you to sell you something. His contact info is in the first post of this thread:

2. Bachman Pawn and Gun on Northwestern Hwy. They carry Bushmaster, RRA, Armalite and Colt. Their prices are usually untouchable, but they can be assholes.

If you don't mind driving out to Ft. Worth, then Cheaper Than Dirt has a nice store, but I don't really think they are Cheaper than Dirt. Their prices seemed to be pretty much MSRP the last time I was in there.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I didn't know there was a Cabelas out here, use to go to the one near Austin all the time. I'll probably take him out there to look around some. Also plan on taking him out to the range this weekend to let him shoot my ar and my remington 700 police to see what type of setup he likes better.

Robbie is A1 at lonestar whole sale and he only does shows I beleive..but a known manufactured AR under 600 is easy to do with him..and he has  been building ARs for alot of years.

bachman is the best black rifle dealer, one of the biggest distrubitors in Texas..B&S in GArland has a few and some good guys..
and LEts not forget Rays Hardware near downtown every kind of gun known to man and some good smittys as well

and winchester in ft worth, military gun supply in ft worth

Bachman's pricing is totally different at gun shows than going to their location on Harry Hines.  Ask me how I know.  It's best to wait for the gun show to get it from Bachman's.

I've bought several guns out of the their store front. They do give a gunshow discount, but their store front prices are still good too.

And they're on Northwest Hwy...not Harry Hines.

Not a store front but contact Becky at SportingArms.com. She can get just about everything in a reasonable time for a reasonable price. A+ customer service.

If you buy from Jeff Schramm at his new store, then beware his follow-up letter threatening to sic ATF on you.

Huge +1 there.  I do all my FFL transfers through Becky, but have yet to buy a gun from her.

Don't worry about Jeff. He's okay to deal with. He tried to get a gun back that "somehow" got mis-tagged, and sold, and it didn't work out. It's old news and no worse than the horror stories you can hear about dealing with the A hole owner at Bachmans. I try to only discuss the things that personally happen to me and not what ever I hear about or what happens to my friends. I had it happen to me at Bachmans.

Jeff also has really good prices and a super nice store. Robbie is a great guy to deal with as well and I'm not trying to cut him out.

+1 for Robbie w/Lone Star (see him at a show)
+1 for Military Gun Supply

Have bought stuff from both.
