| I'm going to my better half's mother's home next week and was wondering what there is to shoot at out there. She said that coyote/predator hunting was big, but that's all she knows. Are there prairie dog colonies out there? Javelina? I definitely need somewhere to get away, otherwise I'll be stuck painting her mother's house all week. hinking.gif |
Drive for a while. Get out of truck, turn in a circle. If you happen to see something (besides your truck or the road) feel free to try to hit it. Warning, object may be at or near the horizon. |
Haha, That's what I was thinking it would be like. What about over in the Canyon area? |

I lived in Lubbock in the mid sixties and you could go to the top of the First National Bank and see Amarillo........120 miles away.....as long as there wasn't a dirt storm blowing........sat in Jones Stadium and saw the first football game in the history of the Southwest Conference called for weather....a tornado jumped the stadium with 41,000 of us sitting there....... |

In Amarillo proper there is not alot of hunting of course. In the surrounding area though there is hunting as good as anywhere in Texas. Within an hour of town I can hunt hogs, dove, quail, pheasants, geese, mule deer, whitetails, auodad sheep, turkeys and antelope. Do quite a bit of varmint hunting as well- yotes, prairie dogs and bobcats....Plenty of good hunting here. |
Great! Give the guy some info so he can get hooked up with an outfit or something. |

Varmints are of course open and hogs and auodad are as well. Auodad is serious bucks though. I have a lease with them on it but from what I understand a guided hunt runs $1,500 and up-mostly UP..... We have taken some truly huge goats off our place-30" plus..... Hogs, there are still a very few places where you can hunt them for free but not many. Most farmers/ranchers are interested in making some money and just hunting them for a couple of days without a guide or a "setup" would be pretty tough. In predators....yotes everywhere and many folks would let you hunt for asking. |
