Hello all - I am considering buying a house in Texas and later buying some acreage.  I am currently in Monterrey, MX but would like to have a residence in Texas.  Preferably somewhere not too far from Monterrey, MX for the present.  I am thinking of country or suburb but I am not sure what area.

As far as buying land, I saw a site last week listing toxic waste dumps in Texas (posted in another thread), and as much as I would like some acreage - I would like to buy somewhere that this would not be an issue - I am thinking something that allows for hunting, shooting, etc.

Suggestions, tips, recommendations are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Close to Monterrey? Just North of Macallen might be nice. West of Macallen is Muy Grande buck country, with lots of open land. Have no idea what prices are like though.

Thanks. I heard that property taxes are high in TX - is that pretty much statewide or are certain counties much higher than others?
