With all the new management and especially with the sub gun match last week, I called Elm Fork today as I was hoping to go shooting today.  Unfortunately, per the front office they do not allow fully auto guns at Elm Fork.

TJ, I appreciate all that you have done, but do you know if subguns are ever going to be allowed?  I definately was hoping to have a new range to call my own as this is so close, but this just doesnt make sense.  Hopefully their attudes will change.

My thought of this matter is the management allows subguns for matches with TJ, only.
Any other times---regular range time/everyday activities---I doubt that they allow full-auto.

They don't allow them yet, but at the sub gun league.  It was said and I agree that right now isn't the best time to allow sub guns.  As the clients changes (for the better) then maybe.  You may not want that "shooter" a couple rows over watching you and follow or have a homie follow you home to where your sub gun lives.

The range is nice but its the first time I've been to it in 10 years and it was  at night so I didn't get to see all of it.  The "customers" that used to shoot at Winchester/Elm Fork, when I went years ago, I wouldn't have taken a subgun then when prices were reasonable compared to todays rates.  You have a $4k to $20k sub gun that you want to shoot?  Wait till the league.  Maybe if we get enough shooters we can rent a day out for a big shoot.

I think also with the number of bays in use, with the large number of people using the facility during the normal public times, it might be the correct decision for this time.  The time that I went was just after Thanksgiving and the place was packed, I had to wait about 30 minutes and the range staff actually placed 2 more tables on the line, about 25 people were using 2 bays and at least that amount of people were behind the bays either waiting or watching.

Maybe the bays closest to the rifle range, with plate racks or some other sort of reactive target and away from the 2-3 paper target bays could be designated for subguns.  The subguns are going to draw people over to that bay, while I know most all class 3 owners like to show off their stuff and let people look, having a crowd around your stuff is going to make some of them think they can just pick it up and finger f**k it.

 Good idea.
Or designated certain days or hrs for subgun crowds.
Or additional RO for just subgun shooters and charge a little more for Full auto shooters.  I don't think these C3 shooters complain with extra charges.

I just don't think we should be relegated to second class citizens when we are the most regulated and federally checked group of shooters at a range

They've put alot of money and work into the place, looks nice.  Steel plates beats the hell out of shooting paper.

I guess you could always go to DFW Gun Club

I think the current trend is towards protection of your C3 item.  If management who is fine with NFA says lets not do it just yet, they may have inside info on a criminal element that at this time they can't do anything about.  Or they may be slowly showing that NFA shooters are responsible and don't just spray and pray.  Remember it still is city property.  So better to error on the side of caution.  Of course I'm just speculating about that and have no knowledge.

I hope to conquer items one at a time.  The first one was Full metal jacket.  They still have the sign pop riveted to the door but they now don't care if you shoot it.  I hope with the sub-gun league to open doors that have been closed.  The owner was watching the whole match and didn't have a negative thing to say.

I had a reason for doing the match when the range was closed.  I didn't want John Q citizen watching what vehicle you were getting out of, and jotting down the tag number.  Lots of years working undercover and being at the "public range" to see who is shooting with their pistols upside down.

If this is doable, I think it has to be done in an area away from the general public.  That way they don't have to listen to the panic about those guys shooting illegal weapons.  I know everyone likes to show off the neat stuff, but being a City of Dallas park, might not be the place to do it.  We all know you can take all the Legal, moral, registered, and ethical and throw it out the window when your talking to City Fathers.  Give me some time and I will work things out if I can.  T.J.

I seriously appreciate all that you have done, and even thought I really hope it happens, if it doesnt you have done more good for that range in 6 months than what has happened in 6 years.

Thanks for your efforts TJ.

I completely understand a range that would be wary of FA weapons.... sure, I'd love to see a place embrace them.... but I understand the concern and liability.

MADUCE pretty much summed it up how it was explained to us at the shoot.  Thats something I am OK with.  Especially if they allow a little open shoot at the end of each match.

How do I get on this list? I thought I was the only one doing matches in the area.  Man I would love to compete in a match where the only thing I was obligated to do is show up!

Yeah dude, its so nice.  Instead of walking down range to staple up paper plates, all you do is "pull the string" and all the steel resets.  NICE...
