Anyone have any experience with him?   Specifically is he conservative/liberal, etc..  Even more specifically, how does he rule in child custody cases?  I think he was from Sherman but I'm not positive.

I've bailiffed for Judge Jarvis on several occasions. When I was in his court he did pay attention to what was going on in front of the bench, unlike others, and rendered a fair decision. And treated the staff well. I've seen him put a few Defense attorneys in their place, almost got to arrest one. And I've seen him slap around a Prosecuter or two as well. I'm not sure of his politics but he was an impartial judge when I was in his court. Beyond that, he rides a Harley and knows when to adjurn for the day to have a drink.

But.

He is a visiting Judge now, not a sitting Judge. Some courts will use a visiting Judge to clean up a Dockett, giving them cases that the sitting Judge does not want to hear for some reason. A visiting Judge is also not bothered by the politics of the case and can make a unpolular ruling in politicaly sensitive cases without reguards for political reprocussion. A visiting Judge will also hear Dockett while the sitting Judge is hearing a trial, this allows the court to maintain a steady flow of cases and not get bogged down on one hearing. They can also cover if the sitting Judge will not be on the Bench.

Great info!  Thanks!   The sitting judge recused himself due to my family being involved in local politics.
