I use Varget and it's a great powder in my .308  but I have had little progress working up a load that my AR really likes.  SS
Lee has Data for lots of .223

That one looks like mine except for the buttstock. Your 1:8 should do fine with 55gr up to 75gr. 55gr - 69gr match is probably ideal. Very good ballistic trajectory up to 300m with the bull barrel.

55 gr is too light and inconsistant ( at least it is in my 1/8 ), stick with 68 gr or heavier

Is that the RRA varmint? If so, I have the same one. Shot today with 55gr TAP. Normally shoot 75gr TAP but the 55 worked great.  Have tried Black Hills in all sorts of weights, and a few others. TAP seems to be the most accurate.

First - Sierra MatchKings do not come in 62 or 68 gr bullets.  They come in 52, 53, 69, 77, 80, and 90 gr weights.

Your barrel will be compatible with 40gr - 77gr bullets (some will load 80's, but gotta be careful)

I had that same barrel - Wilson blank, RRA 1:8 with a Wylde chamber.  From best to worst groups - with what I tested at 100yds.  Without question - the 77gr SMK was the most consistent... which is great because it is also the best for longer distances.

1.  77gr SMK
2.  45gr Winchest varmint
3.  52gr SMK
4.  52gr Hornady HPBT match
5.  55gr VMAX
6.  50gr VMAX
7.  68gr Hornady HPBT Match
8.  69gr SMK
9.  55gr Hornady BT (bulk non HP non match)
10.  55gr M193
11.  55gr and 62gr Wolf (HP, SP, FMJ... doesnt matter)

NEVER assume your barrel will shoot like mine.
NEVER assume you can judge what will work best based on bullet weight or twist.

Heavier does not always mean better.  The second best load in my 1:8 was a 45gr bullet.  There are those who will tell you that is "overstabilized" which is complete baloney.  Now - what it will do at 400-500yds - I cant tell ya.... cause I wouldn't think of shooting it that far with those tiny pills.

Match grade does not always mean better.  Some bores will like a certain bullet design, and there aint a lot you can do about it.  You simply have to test them all.

Powder?  Varget.

I had good results with 69gr SMKs with my RRA SS 1:8 barrel. I was using 26 gr of H4895.

What kinda groups did you get?  I only tried Varget, and some AA2230.  Even though the 69SMK was low on my list... it still often grouped sub MOA (.75 at best in 5 shot groups)  The problem was it wasnt consistent.... one group would be .75, the next would be as big as 1.5".  Most were around 1.2"  I would bet if I played with powders, I could have gotten a better combination... but Varget pushed my 77's so damned well, I just standardized on that bullet.

1" was typical, but I was using irons and am not a great precision shooter, so I'm sure the load could consistantly group tighter with that barrel than I was capable of.

The outline of your RoT engraving is missing some territory.

But I like very much. Where did you get it done?

The engraving was done by Tom Sawyer Manufacturing ("likemopar" here on arfcom) before he sold the company to Orion Arms.

I have the same rifle.

I have shot 1/2" groups on occasion with both 69g SMK and 68 hornady match HPs.  I use Varget powder at 23g and 24g respectively.

BuzzMan, is that a Accu-Shot monopod on your PRS stock? If it is how do you like it? I'm thinking of ordering one with the new Quick Knob option for my SR-25.
