I have been trying to get out there for several weeks but I finally made it out to the "Lone Star Gun Range" in Lockhart this morning (got wet but was able to go through a couple boxes of ammo anyway). This range is still a little rough around the edges (only been open 3 months) but shows lots of promise.

Several folks have asked about it so here is what I found out:

1) Right now there is only a single pistol range that is set up for 3/7/15/25 yards. He is hoping to split the pistol range sometime in the near future so that one side can be for Concealed Carry classes and the other can be for the general public.
2) A 200 yard rifle range is planned to be in place by the end of the summer assuming that it ever stops raining. He says he needs at least two weeks without rain in order for the ground to dry enough to use his tractor.
3) There are no restrictions on the type of ammo (i.e., steel core and metal jacket are OK) shot on the pistol range. You are also more than free to pick up your own brass as long as you do it safely.
4) You can shoot a 22LR rifle on the pistol range while others are shooting pistol.
5) You are allowed to shoot tactical shotguns and tactical rifles at the pistol range if there is no-one else at the range (probably OK to shoot when other folks are there assuming it is OK with everyone else).
6) The owner is black-rifle and Class 3 friendly. HOWEVER, you are currently not allowed to shoot full-auto at the pistol range. The owner wants to make the rifle range FA friendly but says he will need help in doing so. He mentioned that if anyone has a dozer to help build burms suitable for FA, he said he would work out a deal (i.e., free lifetime membership to the range)
6) Cost is currently $45/year (plus one-time $5 fee) to shoot. The owner said once the rifle range is complete he expect to raise the price to $75 or $100/year.
7) The owner hopes to eventually have tactical rifle and pistol classes but needs to do a lot more work on the range before that will be feasible.
8) The owner does not have an FFL so does not currently sell firearms but does have a few to rent. He indicated he is in the process of getting his FFL right now.
9) He has target stands and a stapler at the range. If you want to bring your own targets (metal plates, bowling pins, etc.) that is generally OK but first the the owner needs to see it to ensure that it is safe.

You can see the times/directions/etc on his website: http://www.ctxpta.com/index.html

I am hoping to make it back out there on Saturday. Probably have my CZ52 and my 22LR target rifle this time.

Hope that helps answer some of the questions.
