I need to get my Texas CHL. I also need to qualify here for the LEOSA (HR218). I noticed on the tcleose site that Texas allows a CHL instructor to qualify retired out of state police officers for the LEOSA qualification. I could go to my old department, but the 2000 mile round trip doesn't appeal to me right now. I was wondering if any of the CHL instructors have done this. Hopefully someone on the Dallas side of DFW. I live in Kaufman county. |

tag - I thought you had to get your qual through your retirement agency. EDIT: Hmm, maybe not: `(5) during the most recent 12-month period, has met, at the expense of the individual, the State's standards for training and qualification for active law enforcement officers to carry firearms; |
Do you have a link to that on the TCLEOSE site? |
OK, the form references the Texas Occupations Code, Section 1701.357 (yes, .357, lol) and that section does NOT address CHL instructors. However, the form lists CHL instructor several times. I'll call TCLEOSE Monday to be sure, but it appears I can administer the firearms profeciency to you. I'll post back Monday. |
LOL Worst case scenario, we qual you, I fill out my section of the form, you do the rest and you submit it. I have found TCLEOSE pretty easy to work with. |
