I need to get my Texas CHL.  I also need to qualify here for the LEOSA (HR218).  I noticed on the tcleose site that Texas allows a CHL instructor to qualify retired out of state police officers for the LEOSA qualification.  I could go to my old department, but the 2000 mile round trip doesn't appeal to me right now.  I was wondering if any of the CHL instructors have done this.

Hopefully someone on the Dallas side of DFW.  I live in Kaufman county.

Can any of our CHL instructors answer if they can qualify someone for LEOSA?

tag - I thought you had to get your qual through your retirement agency.

EDIT:

Hmm, maybe not:

I WILL find out, and I am in Dallas.  I'll happily take care of you if allowed.

Do you have a link to that on the TCLEOSE site?

It is in the regular tcleose site, (www.tcleose.state.tx.us) and you look on the left side for the forms section.  When you click on that it brings up all the tcleose forms.  I think it is fl1 or something like that.   I really appreciate your response.

OK, the form references the Texas Occupations Code, Section 1701.357 (yes, .357, lol) and that section does NOT address CHL instructors.

However, the form lists CHL instructor several times.  I'll call TCLEOSE Monday to be sure, but it appears I can administer the firearms profeciency to you.

I'll post back Monday.

txinvestigator,  Thanks I hope you get ahold of someone that can give you the information.  I called last week, and the person I talked to didn't know what LEOSA was or that  retired out of state officers could qualify.  I look forward to see what you can find.

LOL  Worst case scenario, we qual you, I fill out my section of the form, you do the rest and you submit it.  I have found TCLEOSE pretty easy to work with.
