It looks like i need to find a new job, my employer just lost a contract and they have already done the first rounds of layoffs. Just when everything starts looking up, someone comes along and kicks you in the nuts.

I have spent fifteen years in the construction industry, mainly as an electrician.  The company i was with up until today i was  working with PLC controls, for the oil industry.

Who'd your company lose the contract to?   Are they local?

Well at least the oil construction industry is booming right now in Houston. You should be able to find a job in no time.

The Oil patch is a crazy place. One minute you're rollin in dough, the next minute your looking for a new ticket. My thinking, the money outweights the job security issues.

The patch is booming all over the nation. You shouldn't have any trouble finding a new gig.

Luck!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Saltydog. I hope you find work soon.

I have to say though, this is a great site. I love to see folks trying to help each other out.

Thanks everyone, i really do mean it.  When i got the news from my employer this morning it was like i was hit by a truck. And i dont want to vent to much around my wife and kids, no need for them to stress out. The support from you guys is great, i just want to say thanks. I used to hang out at another forum and if i posted my misfortune there i would only get a " What do you have to sell" as a response. The members of this forum are fantastic. Thanks again
