I went to a job interview and the interviewer will call my present employee to check references (standard procedure) but...

My current boss is a bit "hurt" because a confrontation we had (he was wrong, I was right kind of thing) so now I am kind of paranoid if he messed up my chances with the other job. My quals were up to par with the job so I thought I was going to get it. Would it be a good idea to confront my current boss and ask if he sunk me or it would be better to just let it go? He knows about my "loyalties" with the job and that I am looking somewhere else.

I already checked the bad reference check website but it is too expensive.
I am writing a feedback letter to the interviewer in case I need to modify my skills.

if the old boss is a stand up guy he will give you the reference you deserve.

the new boss is a good guy to work for he will see thru any whining and bitching your old boss will do.

end the end if you are meant to have the job you will get it!

What would be the point of "confronting" your boss?

Either he did the noble thing, or he screwed you - Either way, at this point, it's water under the bridge.

if your old boss is giving you a bad reference and you think it's preventing you from getting new jobs, you might want to determine if thats the case before you get yourself booted from more interviews.

If hes giving you bad references everywhere you look, then this is going to be an on going problem until you get it resolved and you have a right to speak with him in a calm, professional, manner and ask him if he might be the reason that you're not getting hired anywhere.

Im pretty sure that past employers are only allowed by law to say whether or not you are eligible for re-hire and a yes or no on whether they would recommend you.

I could be wrong on that, but i didnt think that past employers could go into detail about your work performance.

[Edited because im tired and mis-spelling everything tonight]

I would explain the situation to a potential employer who would be contacting your current employer, and suggest that the employer contact not only your boss (who may have personal issues with you) but other people who worked with you on that job who might be less biased (assuming that whatever job you worked wasn't just you and your boss).

Thanks guys.
Apparently, the city hired a person that had the certifications needed. I just get pissed cause the offer mentions that the prospect will be sent get those certs. They should be specific in the requirements. F**k Them!

I guess I'll drink a few, forget about it and keep looking.

Thanks again guys.

They cant carry on a conversation about you... All that can be asked is if you worked there and if you are rehireable (sp?). Anything else is grounds for someones job.
