Hi folks,

I need to get the barrel threaded on my PTR-91, and was wondering if any of you could suggest a good smith to do the work in the Austin area.

I had been using Terry Davis for smith work, but found out that he was out of business this morning.

Thanks.

You could try Hank Fleming. I haven't had serious work done by him, but I know others who have and have been thoroughly satisfied. He does work with AR's.

I'd refer you to Hank Fleming as well.....he has done everything I needed in the few years I've been back in the area. If he can't do it he generally can send you somewhere that they can!

Is Terry out of business or is he just not doing smith work any more?   Last time I talked to him he was just gonna stop doing smith work but still sell EBRs.

He's out of business.  He used to do all my FFL transfers but I think he got in some tax trouble and shut down.

Hank does good work.  He is W-A-Y south.  He is working on my Saiga and has a 3 week backlog currently.

Art Tillman does some really fine work, but has also been known to have backlog and his prices are a bit higher (but his work is incredible!)

Just my .02 cents!

While I had some "tax trouble" the real reason is that I have been doing gunsmithing and retail sales of firearms at the shop and at gunshows for the last 12 years.  It is time for a change.  I decided to become a truck driver, I had considered it a number of years ago and never followed through.  I just want to go out and see the country and get paid to do so.
