I enjoy fishing, especially for Largemouth Bass, anyone else?

I figure we could discuss various lures, colors, etc that are working at our indivdual lakes.

Perhaps even get a Texas Hometown fishing thing going.

Moj Mojo, where do you like to fish?  Do you have any preffered lakes?  Do you, uhh got a boat?

For me, right now its Cedar Creek Resevoir, because the Sandies are biting and fun to catch.

Also, during the week I go to either White Rock or Bachman, for practice.  I did catch the Bachman Lake recorde largemouth last week, only 5lbs 9oz.

FALARAK(sorry, I dont have the flying pony thingy), next time I hit Cedar Creek, or if you like to fish White Rock or Bachman in the middle of the week, let me know, you can use my gear.

Used to fish at Possum Kingdom lake, but that was several years ago.
Recently, went night fishing with a friend at Lake Ivie on his friend's boat.  Caught a good amount of sand bass and crappie.

Cedar Creek Resevoir, huh?  If you go on Sundays, let me know.

No place to go?  You mean you don't know where to catch fish?

Heck, we should have an ARFCOM fishing day.  I'm sure, guys know where's the place to catch fish.

I haven't fished in years and honestly would be happy to buy a rod just for such an occasion. I'll even bring a 24 pack of beer! Used to love fishing. My grandfather took me all the time as a young boy and I have to say, I really miss those days.

An arfcom Texas Hometown fishing trip would be awesome!  Perhaps we could rent a pontoon boat, at a good area bass lake(Fork, Ray Roberts, Richland Chambers.  Ray Roberts is closer for most in D/FW).  While pontoon boats certainly arent great bass boats, they can hold several people comfortably, and can be fished from easily.

Remember, if something like this happens, fishing licenses are a must.

I fish as much as I have time for, which isn't a lot. Living on the coast, I can get to very good saltwater fishing in a couple of minutes so that is the most frequent that I have a chance for. When I do get to do freshwater, it is in local rivers and bayous or the big east Texas lakes, Rayburn and Toledo.

No matter which I do, I would rather be flyfishing over casting or bait fishing (weather conditions and location permitting).

As far as largemouth, my go-to choice would be a Texas rigged Gary Yamamoto twin tailed hula grub (preferably 5 inch) in cinnamon with black flake. I had a good buddy turn me on to these lures and I absolutely couldn't believe the results. I think they stopped making them though from what I hear, but over in this part fishin' is the last priority. hug.gif

But the reports that I've seen lately for my neck of the woods (Hunt county and surrounding areas), it seems like the lack of rain is causin' nothing but havoc with all the lakes. I did have some good luck the last time I was home pulling some decent sizes out of a couple of new lakes that I'd never fished before.

And as far as the Texas Hometown fishin' group, I'd be willin' to go as long as I'm back on that side of the world.

I'm from the east coast, so I was ALWAYS either surf fishing, in the river or bay in my boat, or deep sea fishing! I love to fish!!!!  I don't really care what I'm fishing for, I just like something wih a little fight.  (I don't eat fish, though, so I either catch and release, or give it to somebody who will eat it.)

One of my favorite things to do was go to Assateaugue Island with my dogs, my gear, and a bag of books, and I would pitch a tent and surf fish and relax for a week or so.  I miss that!

Sadly, I haven't wet a line since I moved to Texas, and I don't have any gear with me at all.  I'd buy some, though, if we were going to do an Arfcom fishing thing!

Right now I'm playing with what I call "reduced size baits".  I normally use a 1/2+ tandem spinnerbait in white, chartruese, or white/chartruese, but now I'm going with 3/8 and 1/4 ounce tandem spinnerbaits.  The fish seem to be hitting those harder, with a chance for a more positive hook set.

If I miss a fish that drilled one of my spinner bates, I throw a pearll Zoom Super Fluke, weedless rigged, with a Owner 5/0 hook.  They will drill the snot out of those flukes.

In the early AM, like 0500ish, I use a red headed minnow Rebel Pop-R, or chust a minnow colored one.  They mimmick the minnows feeding on skeeters and other bugs in the AM.  Bass are hitting those pretty good, although I've considered using a Tiny Torpedo.

Always looking for boating partners.  You'll need offshore gear.

For bass I'm sold on those GULP 6" lizards in pumkinseed color.  They'll hit them constantly on a Texas rig.  Heck, even big catfish will hit them.

Any time any place (but usually Falcon Lake or Amistad).  Started planning my next fishing trip this very afternoon.  Only sad thing about leaving South Texas was being so far away from good hunting and fishing.

What kind of cover are you running that spinner bait on? I've never had any luck with spinner baits in Texas for some damn reason.  I've tried it on different kinds of lay downs and brush piles but nothing ever comes of it. Tried using them shallow and deep but again nothing ever comes of it.

I'm using them around heavy structure piles, creek mouths, heavy vegetation spots, and drop offs.  Because there is such a risk of loosing the lure to these places, I use the cheap-o Walmart $1 promo spinnerbaits.  Saves you money, after all, no matter the sales pitch, a spinnerbait is a spinnerbait is a spinnerbait.  I've never bought into the "these spinnerbaits have realistic eyes, thats why they are $6 ea." or,"These use titanium wire, thats why these are $6 ea.".  When throwing spinnerbaits, I expect the loss to occur on each cast, its the risk I take.

Throw the spinner bait with the right color, the right blade(s), and the right weight.  Fish wil still go bonkers over them.

When you get back to Texas, I'll be happy to run you around to some area lakes and show you how effective they can be.

SWEET!  I dont have to take a boaters education course, so yeah, renting a boat is an option.  If you are born before Sept. 1 1984, it isnt required.

All we gotta do is set a date.

Decide on a lake.

Confirm how many are coming.

What are you doing Friday afternoon?  We'll probably go out overnight on Lake Travis since the coastal weather is turning lousy.

I like to fish, and I have a boat. Unfortunately, my truck needs a water pump and I need time to install it. I plan on getting back into fishing this fall, if gas prices cooperate. I am in Burleson, and I like to fish the Brazos River chain Granbury to Whitney.
