I tried posting this in General without much luck... I'm looking into applying at UNT in Denton for grad school and am curious as to which suburbs are good - something 20 minutes or less from Denton and maybe convenient to Dallas as well, or is Denton even that far from Dallas at all? Any input is appreciated! |

UNT is a nice school (kinda boring design though)... If you want the Fort Worth side, check out places like Keller, Haslet, Roanoke to live at. Lewisville is also near Denton, but traffic that way is eh... Will you be going to just school or working in Dallas/Fort Worth? |
What kind of job are you looking for? That may help determine your best areas to live so you have minimal drive to skewl/work. |

In a straight line from Denton to Dallas(I-35E), in order of closer to Denton, to closer to Dallas: Corinth, Highland Village, Flower Mound, Lewisville. You can go further in towards Dallas(Coppell, Carrollton, etc) but you might struggle making that 20 minutes, especially as much as 35 gets clogged up. These are all nice suburbs for the most part. |
It's an English degree with a professional writing concentration, and my main experience has been in technical writing/editing. I'm looking for anything along those lines. |
| If you are interested, Lewisville is generally a good area. Kind of in the middle between everything. Cost of living isnt bad and there are alot of apt communities geared towards a younger crowd with free beer and such... Where are you moving from now? If you would be interested in a job in post-production, I have a hot line on that.. |
Cool.. I'm moving from San Antonio, probably by March at the latest (I hope). |

Lewisville is a good compromise for both Denton and Dallas. That is about 20 minutes from campus (can be more if traffic is bad, and that doesn't include finding a parking spot and walking). If you're thinking of getting an apartment I'd just live in Denton and move to Dallas if/when you get a job there. Driving back and forth to Lewisville multiple times a day might get old if you have a gap in work/class/whatever. |
Basically free anything. Beer, liquor, food, clothing, electronics, time, etc. |
