Channel 8 said he was on BMV stakeout, when this clown decided to carjack the officer.  The idiot opened up on the officer when he saw the badge.  Last I heard, he was hit in the chest 2 or 3 times, but is in stable condition at Parkland(or Baylor).  I can only assume he was wearing his vest.  Thank God.

Thanks for the answer, longhorn.

Anyone know if it's SOP to pull solos working BMV stakeouts?  I'm *assuming* he had other officers (at least a partner?) in the vicinity, and wondered how quickly they were able to respond.  From my unprofessional opinion, apparently neither close enough or quick enough, or this fucker (i.e. the suspect) would likely be dead.

It's one thing to shoot non-LE (like myself).  You see it, hear of it, you know it happens.  It's quite another when LE gets shot, especially AFTER the guy made him.    Maybe BG was wanted on another, more serious warrant, and thought the officer was there for that?  Maybe gang initiation?  Who the fuck knows; I sure as hell don't.  Definitely seems to be an inverse relationship between balls and intellect, though.

FWIW, here's the [cold] link on dallasnews:

(thanks for the earlier direction there, RenegadeX)

Prayers for the officer and his family.

from what my DPD buddy told me:

plainclothes officer was following BMW suspects.  suspects pulled into apartment complex.  officer exits unmarked car and sets out on foot to follow BMV suspects.  two unrelated guys come ang mug plainclothes officer.  upon finding out he is a cop they shoot him twice.  once in hip, once in the torso.  third bullet went into his foot, some say officer may have accidentally shot himself in the foot as he returned fire.  officer missed the two guys.  they flee in a vehicle.  officer calls the cavalry and they chase the bad guys down.

officer is smart enough to switch radio to secondary channel to call for ambulance.

Wow.  That doesn't exactly sound like a gated community.
