| Anyone been to the new Cabelas in north Fort Worth today? I know its been open since 8am. I think I am going to be crazy and go, just cause its interesting. I also need to see what competition it brings to the shop I work at. Anyway, I'll report back |
| I just got back from Cabelas and let me say it is very impressive. It is more well done by far than Bass Pro and has a heck of a gun library. I bought a few reloading components and prices were pretty good, a little cheaper than I had been paying at Sportsman's Warehouse. The animal exhibits and displays are pretty cool too. Its worth the trip. It was REALLY busy though, and that was Thursday, can't imagine how busy it will be this weekend. |
Sounds good. How was the traffic? What are the hours? |
The traffic wasn't bad at all. I got there about 1230 or so and was there for about an hour. They had guys directing traffic and I pulled right in to a parking spot (plenty of parking) and didn't have to walk very far. For those of you who don't like the exercise, they have a bunch of golf carts that will come and pick you up at your car and take you to the front door and vise versa. The hours are 0800 til 2100. |
These golf carts are for people like me. You know, knee problem...back problem....can't see sh!t 2 feet away.

| I went, and it was neat. Saw my boss there checking out the competition. They have so many fucking guns there, its crazy. IMHO, its Bass Pro X 2. Nothing really wonderful, ammo was kinda high. I will go back again to really shop, I was just there out of sheer curiosity. |

I just got back too. Tons of stuff that you don't see at Bass Pro. Cabelas does have black guns. I saw a guy looking at one and noticed about 9 on the rack. They also have a large selection of pistols/revolvers. I remember when Bass Pro went through there little snit saying the were only going to have "hunting handguns." Other cool things - Truck and ATV accessories. There's a good selection of camping goodies up stairs (I bought a luggable loo - I'm not sharing at the lease). Lots and lots of hunting clothes. The Bargin Room was packed with stuff on clearance. I guess they brought it all in from other stores. There were some pretty good deals there. The animal displays were very good. It reminds you of the original Bass Pro in Springfield. There is one room with nothing but native Texas animal mounts - was very nice. There's also an African animal display with a life sized elephant. My kids that that was pretty cool. Overall, I'd say it's pretty cool. It's also so close to THD, that now I'll just go to both when I'm up that way. R. |

I went yesterday and was very impressed! It really is Bass Pro times two - everything is bigger and better. The prices are decent right now but because this is the 'soft opening' they aren't really running anything on sale. The true "grand opening" sale doesn't start until July....they are waiting for the store in Buda to be completed so they can have a Texas sized grand opening with both stores on the same dates. No rifle/pistol ranges and no real archery range per se....there is an area to shoot archery and the guy told me I could bring my bow in to shoot if I wanted. Its a single lane. 20 yd. which is nothing special. Apparently insurance is the problem with indoor ranges of all types these days. Don't miss out on the sandwich shop on the upstairs level - I got a sliced Elk cold cut sandwich that was fantastic. They had many tasty looking selections up to pick from including several wild game meats (Elk, venison, wild hog; etc). I don't see how Bass Pro is going to be able to compete with them, Cabelas really outdoes them on everything so far. |

For the first time in a year I went into a gun store other than my own. Cabela's is bigger than Bass Pro but other than that appears almost identical. Much bigger gun inventory than others and one of the few stores I have seen where you can actual handle some of the guns because they are not all behind the counter. Quite a few used guns which is unusual for a large chain. They have a good selection of reloading stuff which is hard to find in a retail store. Excellent assortment of ammunition. Lots of the cheaper brands of accessories like Triple K which they had 3 isles full of stuff from. Grand opening commemorative t-shirts for $12.95 They do have a food court for you corny dog lovers out there. I spot checked a few prices and compared them with our own- Item MGS Cabela's New Glock 17 $479 $529 Romanian Hi-cap AK $349 $439 G3 Bsquare Mount $49.95 $89.99 White box Win. .40 $7.95 $9.99 Russian 9mm FMJ $4.95 $6.99 They claim they will be the biggest tourist attraction in Fort Worth which I find hard to believe. They hired about 40 FW Cops to keep the crouds in line and even had a temporary corral set up for the mounted police so mind your manners while you are there. If you like Bass Pro than you will love Cabelas. Eric |
Amen. I don't think you'll see any real sportsmen using these. Oh, except maybe the 1-weekend-a-year-"hunters"s. Ben |
I live close by so I went on Thursday for the first day, and took my kids there this afternoon to see the stuffed animals and all. I would say it is larger than SW. They had SA milspec 1911s, Kimbers, etc. I did see some EBRs including what looked like a cetme black widow for $759 I did not see the price tags on their BM ARs but I overheard some other dood looking at one say that the price was about the same as CTD ( I know, that aint sayin much) but it gives you an idea. Cabelas really does havea much larger firearms dept. than BP. |
I bought some laser cast bullets there for my .45 and paid $24.99 per 500, which is the same price as the online store. Sportsmans Warehouse charges $28.99 per box, so that is a pretty decent savings. |

I just moved here from Ogden Utah. I've been to the main Cabela's store in Sidney Nebraska many times. Been to the older store in Kearny a few times too. And I've been to Bass Pro in Springfield. Other than going as a curiousity, I have no real desire to go back to any of them. Is the Sportsman's Warhouse here the same chain they have in the Rocky Mountain states? THD? What are some good gunshops in the FTW area? We're going to be living in Azle and I work just off 820 and Marine Creek Pkwy. I've been in Cheaper Than Dirt (it ain't) already. |
I've always considered Cabela's to be on the more up-scale side of outdoor outfitters... not REI level, but getting there... definately not a discount chain (not the wal-mart of their niche). Having said that, I have ordered several articles of clothing from them over the years... so I swung by there Saturday and didnt stay long due to the crowds; only covered about 60% of the store... managed to come home with some decent priced ammo for my .303 enfield and .32-20 Colt SA. (That stuff is not that easy to find at any price.) From what I saw, I'll probably go out there in a few weeks during the week... and maybe a couple times a year. |
ROMAD ??? Are you a TACP? If so I'll be we have some friends in common. |
I know for a fact they carry the m3, m6 and x200. also plenty of surefire stuff. As far as tactical AR stuff each store is gonna be a little different. They are just starting to carry the basics. |
Hmmm.... that price sounds interesting. Do those bullet perform without leading? I have been shooting 230 FMJ's for $82/k out the door.... wouldnt mind saving some dough. |
I was there yestrerday and they had the M3. Also some Bushmasters and I also some other evil stuff like stocks, hi-cap mags, etc. Not as good of a selection as a gun show, but good enough to know there were not just for duck hunters. |
where do you get .45 ammo for $82 per 1000 out the door? |
