I had been mulling an idea around fora while about how to help Brother Hun raise some more cash to help spruce up the Farm.

And... since several of you guys have interesting 'toys' that you allow people to shoot, what if we set up a table by the River, allowed people to shoot the weapons and then ask for donations for the Farm from them?

I plan to Bring the Browning 1919, and thought that a 'donation' of .10 per round would cover my ammo costs and generate funds for the Hun as well.

A 200 round belt would be $20.00,  roughly $10.00 of that would be the ammo price and then $10.00 gets kicked back to the Hun for use on his water line, water bill, repairs, etc...

I have around 4000 rounds for the 1919 (guessing) and if it was all shot up at the Farm, it could generate 400.00 for ETH.

Ideas?  Suggestions?

I know there is a 'spirit' of generosity at the Farm, but there is also a need to help ETH to make the place even more enjoyable in the future.

It's sure a great idea...Anything to help Brother Hun.
Hell, we use his land for our enjoyment and the least we can do, is to pitch in to help him out.
We should also have a donation box for people to donate at his farm when they are up there for a shoot...whatever you want to donate.  I mean, going to the range would cost between $10-$20/day, and you have to deal with Range Nazi, a shot for every 2 sec., shorter range, no FMJ (in most ranges).... Here, at the Hun Farm, anything goes...So a donation is a good way to generate some source of $$$ to improve some of the facilities that we don't have yet.

It sounds like a good idea to me!  We could also put the bar into fund raiser mode.  I have donated pretty near $1000 worth of Windex Margaritas over the years, and was pleased to do so.  I can't even begin to imagine what the GRAND TOTAL of all the booze donations have been, needless to say it has got to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.  Imagine if a $2 donation was provided for each Windex Margarita served...  That is one hell of a bargan considering that same top shelf margarita would run $6 or more at a "real" bar.

I will bring my two suppressors, let people use thier own ammo and ask for a $5.00 'donation' to the Farm for its use on my guns.  They would supply their own ammo.

20" AR15 suppressed
9mm AR15 suppressed, or 7.5" 22LR suppressed
10.5" upper unsuppressed

Would go straight to the Farm, since I have no 'costs' associated with suppressor use since they would be supplying their own ammo.

I don't want to ruin the spirit of 'Hey, sure, shoot my gun!"  But, it would help ETH with his maintenance of the Farm, IMHO.

Guys, I have been donating my time of companionship everytime I go out there.  Do you know how much my time is worth?  My personality alone must be worth a mint.  (peppermint, unfortunately).

anyway, since I should be able to spend more time out there in the future, and have loved every minute of being there in the past, I'll do what I can.

The ammo I have for my 1919 is loose, or on bandoleers.

It is also Turkish surplus, which costs me about 6 cents per round.

If anyone would like to shoot it, without the need to load the belts (can be tiresome) here is some ammo they could buy and bring along with them...

www.ammunitionstore.com/Images/Ammo/A063.1.htm

Already linked up, ready to load and shoot.

Make a $5.00 donation to the Farm and shoot pre-linked ammo.

I'd be up for that as well, I'd just suggest we be cautious about the ammo we let people shoot through our NFA toys (i.e. no reloads).

Also, another thought for the next Hun Farm gathering is a swap table of some sort.  Fireblade has mentioned in the past getting a group table at gun shows where we all can sell our odds and ends we each have around the house.  We could do the same at the Hun Farm, and donate some or all of the proceeds to the Hun Farm.  I know I have a ton of accessories and parts, and my 'trash' might be someone else's treasure (and vice versa).  Thoughts?

I'd suggest starting out with a "kitty" and seeing how that does before asking people to donate in order to shoot your NFA stuff.  I know some guys spend their last available $5 on gas money to get out there and would be left out of the fun if we asked them for money to shoot FA.  I sure would hate to leave someone out because they felt like they would look like an ass if they couldn't contribute, so they decided not to come.

You could make it a more anonymous thing - "Say, you're welcome to shoot my Uzi.  Don't forget there is a kitty to feed in the cabin; those proceeds will go to the Farm.  If you get a chance you might want to feed it!"

I thought about the same issue.  A part of me does not like the idea of 'donating' to shoot one of my toys.  I like being a nice guy and letting anyone and everyone enjoy them.

I suspect it will be an informal 'donation' system.

We'll keep it simple, make a donation, provide your ammo, and enjoy.

Compared to other shoots, where you pay substantially more for the same experience, not a bad deal, IMHO.

Yeah, that sounds good to me too.  I don't want to necessarily shoot FA when I go to the HF.  I like to get better and put in time with the firearms that I have.   I've had many generous offers in the past to shoot others FA weapons when I've been at the HF, I've graciously declined most of these offers.

With that being said, I have zero problem putting a bit of cash towards the maintenance and improvement fund.   A jar on the bar would work great I think.

I might be in the same position of a lot of people these days where I'm short on cash, but I have plenty of time for 'sweat equity' and raw materials to donate such as plywood, framing timber, etc.

So... ETH, If needed or wanted, I'm up for another work weekend before May.  Just say the word.

We really need another Work Weekend' between now and May, for certain, for we didn't get a whole lot done last time we were there.

It seemed as if everyone was put of pocket for that one.

We basically 'culled' the bad barn wood from the good barn wood, and restacked it outside the Cabin.

There's not a real need for a lot of strong backs, just a need for someone with some skill and a few power tools to finish off the Bar before May!

Hopefully, we can accomplish at least this?

ETH, I know that we talked about my brother doing some work on  the bartop.  I'm sure that I could talk him into a trip out there real easy.  Some shelves behind the bar area,  and plumb and finish the sink area.  That would go a long way in getting things done.

I'm one of those who spent my last $5 to get out to the Farm last time.  To answer the question that statement so obvoiusly begs ("So how did you get back? ), I will merely say: "Don't ask."

Still, I not only wouldn't mind donating funds for use of equipment/ammo/beverages, I would prefer it.  As "free" of an atmosphere as it is, I would still feel like a mooch afterwards if I didn't donate at least something.

The Hun Farm puts any range to shame, and any comparison is damn near sacrilegeous (in fact, I'll ask anyone reading to pardon me for that sentence's initial sacrilege).  I truly felt as if I was treading on sacred ground.  When one goes to a "bricks-n-mortar" church, one often tenders a tribute.  I don't see this as much different.

People attend churches for many of the same reasons they go to the Hun Farm:
"Where two or more are gathered in my name, I am there."

And if gathering in a spirit of togetherness to celebrate and learn more about freedom/freedoms (and the instruments thereof) doesn't glorify our Lord, well then I don't know of many other things that do.

Overt, covert, or some combination of the two......... show me to the collection plate!  I'm just thankful for the opportunity to attend.

P.S. I hope my words don't condemn me to the stake.

CavVet.  All factory ammo, brass-cased are fine.  I even use SA .223 surplus and have no problem.  So I think British 62 grains 223 and xm193PD is fine although I have never had a chance to use them yet.  Winchester 9mm White box is cool.

Save away..........  I don't mind a bit.

As I said earlier, these were just something I put together in a few minutes with MS Paint.  Something more professional could easily be done with PhotoShop, but I'll leave that up to our resident experts.

I just thought "Hun Dollars" or "Hun Bucks" might be a nice way to reward "sweat equity" and other non-monetary contributions to the upkeep/maintenance of the Hun Farm.  These could then be added to the kitty (or used to "pay" for use of FA funstuff) by those who cannot afford to contribute as much monetarily.

Also, if we arfcommers ever secede and set up a commune at the Farm (and/or if/when the SHTF), we'll already be ready to roll with our own currency!

I agree with Mojo, people can shoot my weapons and donate to the Hun Farm.  The only thing which doesn't work in HK weapons with fluted chambers are aluminum cases (e.g. Blazer).  Also, reloads are probably best not shot in them either.
3/31/2005 11:12:13 AM EDT

I won't charge people to shoot my weapons. Nor do I want you shooting ammo of unknown to me nature in my guns. That is just me. So I let you shoot my guns with my ammo. However, what you do with the money you save is your choice. Here are some typical ammo costs:

30 rounds 5.56mm Q3131A =  $199/1000 from AMMOMAN = $5.97/30 round magazine (including tax)
30 rounds 9mm BlazerBrass = $4.99/50 from Academy = $8.10/30 round magazine (including tax)

So, dump a couple of M16 magazines, and say 3 MP5 magazines, and you just saved around $36.

Yes, I will be there again with the 9mm Homer bucket.

Even though we haven't made it to the Hun Farm as of yet (hopefully we'll get out there in May), if you set up a 'fund' beforehand I'd like to pitch in.  I'm sure there's more that needs to be done before the big weekend, so why not set up a little something for ETH before then?  For those of us who can't make it for a work weekend, sending a little extra cash beforehand to help out with supplies and such would make me some people feel a little less guilty about just showing up and crashing the party.

If not, I'll be sure and come loaded with onesies to tip the 'bartender'.  Just make sure whoever it is wears something sassy.

I think you can count on Nationwide to wear something sassy.

Unfortunately I've not had the pleasure of participating in a Farm Weekend, tho I would like to.

I'd be more than willing to drop something into the tip jar, but I can't reach that far. A little hep?

While MS Paint may be OK for creating Hun Money, eet ees not so good for pasting Hun's face atop a glamorous - or, some would say, sassy - swimsuit model.

ETA: Anyone else care to try?  I am tapped out.

Err, not to imply you should give me the money, I meant to the HunFarm.

I am new to the Hun Farm experiencebut hopefully I will get my cherry broke in may

But I do have an idea for "The Hun Fund" that someone may have already thought of but I will go ahead and post it.  I know I have some  misc gun related items just laying around that I have been meaning to sell or just dont need,  so what if people brought things to sale and donate the cash?  There could be a table set up or an auction or whatever for this stuff and the profit goes to the fund.  IDK,  seems like a good idea since people could benefit from it by getting good deals on goods and then the Farm would benefit from the money.  Think that would work?

I am going to bring my wallet, It is going to be so awesome.
I am going to bring my new glock with four fifteen round magazines
and two thirty three round magazines just in case some one wants to shoot
I am there to help to.

What kind of ammo would you suggest for your Short barrel rifle or
the suppressed ar15.
thanks, Cowboy
