| Where is a good place to buy a gun safe in the Houston area. What brand do you like. Tell me of your buying experience. Good or bad. |
|
I did a lot of research before I bought my first gun safe. I found that the best bang for my buck was a Canon safe from Academy. Paid $599 for 60"w x 24"d x 30"w and it is fire lined with adjustable shelves. www.cannonsafe.com/safesamericaneagle/ |

Heres mine CH50 www.championsafe.com/products/safe.asp?name=challenger It WAS the biggest they had at the time (6mos ago) but now they have the CH60 |
I've got a CH50 as well. It's a lot of safe for the money. |

The safe I bought fit hte area I wanted to put it in. Anything larger and I would have been putting it in my garage. I look at fire as the main threat to my safe. The longer fire rating, the better IMHO. And, Champion has a lifetime warranty against damage to the safe for fire or theft, free replacement of the safe. So... if some punk kid decides to try and hammer in to my safe, Champion replaces it for free. Not a bad deal, IMHO. TRG |
Liberty Safes are the same way. I have a Liberty Lincoln 35 (got it on sale from the local distributor). Fire rating is 1200deg for 75 minutes, and they'll repair or replace the safe due to attempted/successful break-in, fire damage, etc. |
Phoenix™ Class V Fire Protection 1 Hour 45 Minutes at 1500°F. -- Standard on Crown TRG PS. I placed the safe as far from my liquor cabinet as possible. The liquor supply will probably explode like a tactical nuke and NORAD will be alerted before my local FD... |
The liquor is in a hardened concrete bunker located under the house. Fire can't touch it! |
True, the safe was simply not large enough. ![]() TRG |
+ 1 for Liberty. I did the whole shopping around thing too and it came down to liberty because of there fire rating and price. I bought from San Jacinto Safes in Baytown. Ask for Dwayne. We bought the Franklin 50 I like it, lots of room ( but not for long ) Just shop around and think about what your biggest threat is. Fire or theft ? and go from there. I would say the size needs to be as big as you can get in your house and afford. We already have more than guns in there, cameras, money, titles, photo albums, ect. Just my 2 cents. |
True, mine is protecting alot of my important documents as well. And I learned through my home refinancing that you have alot more 'valuable' papers than you might suspect. I needed my original survey of the property, or it was 650.00 to have a new survey done. Luckily, I had that in my firebox, inside my safe. One little piece of paper saved me 650.00. TRG |

Lonestar Gun Safes on FM1960 in Houston is THE place to buy from. Call Danny at 281.866.8888. Tell him we were talking about him on ARFCOM! ![]() They support the gun shows and are simply great guys to deal with. I have a Champion V-35 and plan on getting one of their 50 or 60 Cu ft safes inthe near future. |
+1 on the above. |
What does this safe cost? How many long guns will fit in it? |
oddly, this place has the prices listed and is close to what i paid for a victory 50 here in dfw. |

Thanks for the advise. I had pretty much decided to go to Lone Star Gun Safes. I didn't want to drive all the way to their store if I didn't have to. I had thought I had seen them at the rodeo every year so I waited untill we went Saturday and bought one from them there. I bought a Champion, Challenger Series CH-35, dehumidifier, Pistol Pockets kit to hold 6 pistols on the inside of the door and I'm calling them Monday and see what kind of deal they will make me on an electronic keypad insted of the dial combination lock. The holsters that hold the pistols on the inside of the door stick on with Velcro. After you have the mat that fits on the door you can buy more holsters to add to the ones that comes with the kit. |

I +1 on Liberty, but I don't think anyone mentioned lock type... I get into mine regularly, and I hate to spin dials all the time. I upgraded to the keypad lock (I've worked in this field before, and the one from Liberty is a completely safe locking mechanism) and have been very happy with the ease of access. I can get in and out of it in seconds, even in low light conditions. One more thing, if you are even a little concerned about someone stealing it, bolt it to the floor. It will take you 30 minutes to do it (even in concrete) and this step will totally screw up a thief job. If for some reason you can't bolt it to the floor, the last resort is to fill up the bottom with ammo and weight it down to make it very difficult to move. |

Terihenry, I have the pistol pockets on my CH50 and I love it. Only thing you should watch with that system sometimes the pistol will touch the inside dividers so you have to position them so they don't touch anything inside. Just thought you might like to know. Sniper243 |

You can also try Safes R Us They are on I-10 east of Houston. They carry the Fort Knox brand and several others. I ended up with the Fort Knox Titan after looking at many safes. Ask for Eric. He is the owner and very knowledgable on many brands of safes. |
