Went there to shoot my AR, whole time I'm setting up the RO is hovering over us.  After we walk downrange in the mud and hang targets, then he decides to check our ammo.  Tells us no FMJ.  WTF!?  Back inside for a refund.  I'll spend my money elsewhere until I get my range built.

I don't understand the thing with no FMJ allowed at some ranges. Does the dirt care what it's shot with? Is FMJ more likely to penetrate a berm?

DFW Area Ranges

Someone else maintains it, I just use it.

I've shot my m4 twice at backwood with no problems, except when I was doing a little rapid fire.  People stopped to stare, and then I noticed the sign that said no rapid fire

I shoot IDPA at Backwoods (been several months, though) and one of the range Nazi's there hates us, probably because of the rapid fire.  He gives us the stink eye and jumps on us for anything he can find.

However, it's a nice facility.

Dude, why didnt you check my range list FIRST!

There are only a HANDFUL of ranges that allow FMJ.

Most of the outdoor one's dont.  It absolutely sucks.... but thats part of the reason i got into reloading..... now I can make my own SP/HP quality blasting ammo.

Backwoods is hands down, the nicest range facility I have been to in the DFW area thus far.  Yeah, the RO's will check your ammo.... and hover when they see a EBR... until you demonstrate proficency or they get to know you.  And after seeing some of the shooters who come out, set up at 100.... and have no clue where their bullets are going, I completely understand it!
