Hey folks, it would be GREAT if we could all try to keep the trash generated at the farm to a minimum. One easy way to do this is to not bring as much trash with you in the first place. You know all those threads referring to "stripping" MREs? You can "strip" lots of other packaged products too! The main thing that I'm talking about is ammo. That case of 7.62x39 that you bring to the farm will generate lots of trash after emptied!!! The cardboard case, plastic bag holding the boxes of ammo inside the case (with some manufacturers), the 20-30 rnd boxes themselves, and the paper dividers (again, depending upon the manufacturer) really add up! What I do is break down my cases that I'm taking to the range and put the ammo in steel ammo boxes. Easy to carry, easy to grab the rounds to reload, and I don't have to worry about the wind blowing trash around, so cleanup is nil. Nice. Also be sure and bring trash bags with you so that each time you leave the farm (for Crowell Steak House, CBSP, motel, wherever) you can take all the trash possible with you to be disposed of properly. This will really help cut down on the problem of the last handful of people at the end of the weekend having to haul mountains of trash to a dumpster for everybody. Also some reminders: Shotgun hulls are trash. Cigarette butts are trash. They do not enhance the beauty of the farm - they are trash. If you throw/leave them on the ground, that mens that some poor soul has to pick them up, even ETH himself. It makes me feel sad and disappointed to see ETH having to police this stuff up after most folks have left. Any other ideas on how to keep the farm clean? Post em! Can't wait to see y'all there! |

Do Not Throw Trash Into The Fire Pit! Wood only. Those of us who hauled several tons of stone and dug a nice sized hole in some very rocky ground appreciate your cooperation. I agree with Tate. It is amazing the things folks bring in, but refuse to take back out with them. Makes me wonder if their momma still cleans their room... |

Yeah buddy. ETH and I were talking about this a few months back. It seems most folks say "I'll clean up after myself" Come Sunday morning, you can see dust trails as they leave the farm. While 5-10 folks remain to police the farm. That happened last summer. I agree with Tate regarding cleaning up as you go. Kinda like cooking in the kitchen. If you wash things as you use them and wipe down counters as you go, it not such a daunting task when all is said and done. With that said. I believe I cn speak from everyone when I say......HUN FARM IS A BLAST!!! No matter what. |

This may be making it more complicated than it needs to be. However, what about laying down sheets of plywood on the firing line to catch ejected cases. It will mash the grass (wherever the line is), but the foot traffic effect will be minimal, and the brass won't get stuck in the mud or lost in the grass. Then the sheets can be stowed in the cabin, against the wall or in the rafters. Also, steel posts to tie trashbags to would be good. The posts also can be stowed in the cabin, taking up very little space. |
Good idea, but a shooting tarp or drop cloth would be better and easy storage. Shells tend to bounce if the hit something soild as wood, tarp would absorb the bounce. Also good point DPeacher, no OSB in the firepit. lol FireBlade |
Forget that! I have all my mail that has important info on it and I plan on bringing it up to the farm to burn in our new firepit! That thing will save me a lot of hours shredding mail. I will burn it when you all go to bed. |
We tried this once before. A tarp is great in theory, but poor in practice. Not that it does not help, it just doesn't cover enough area to catch most the brass. I did use a cloth brass catcher once, along with a tipped over camp chair to deflect my brass in to a neat pile. Worked pretty well. TRG |
Amen to all that! Especially, the.... Do Not Throw Trash Into The Fire Pit! If we catch anyone throwing plastic or glass into the Fire Pit, we might just pitch them in there to retrieve it! We will have a fine time, I can assure you, and still not leave a sticky blob of glass and plastic residue at the bottom of the Fire Pit. You know, we intend to be able to COOK on that Fire Pit, so you wouldn't want any trash in your cook fire, would you? I thought not! Eric The(CleanlinessIsNextToImpossible)Hun

okguy91, ETH will send you some good directions when he reads your post. The biggest 'problem' first time visitors have is they actually get on the farm just fine, but they don't expect to drive 2 miles from the front gate to the cabin. They get scared of being on the wrong farm, and they turn around and leave! ETH's diections are good. Just trust them! I'll have a chainsaw with me, but if you have some extra firewood you WANT to bring, go ahead. There is a 5kW generator already, gas and oil are much appreciated. Last I remember, there were also plenty of trash bags too, but once again, bring some if you want. There is a propane lantern in the cabin for light. Don't forget to pack a chair for each backside you bring. It's still pretty Spartan out there, water is key. I'll see you there! |

Get to Crowell, Texas, which is the County Seat for Foard County. www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&countryid=250&addtohistory=&searchtab=address&searchtype=address&address=State+Hwy+6+%26+Hwy+70&city=Crowell&state=TX&zipcode=79227&search=++Search++&finditform=1 [EDITED] Now, I need to kill everyone who's read this. Be patient, it may be some time before I get to you. Eric The(ButIWillGetToYou!)Hun

Why thank you so kindly, Mr. the Peacher! I am so pleased to see that some on this Board have remembered their manners and will not force an elderly gent to have to come looking for them! It's heart-warming to see that good manners are still alive and well here in the Lone Star State! Eric The(Please.BearWithMe.)Hun

Good! I'm about to edit it out! No need to add to that 'Need to Kill' List anymore than absolutely necessary! Yes, I will see you there, my friend! Eric The(Yippee-Yai-Kai-Yay)Hun

I used to have them saved in my e-mail, but I looked and can't find them. I know that FALARAK has them, and if he would be so kind as to forward them to you, I would appreciate it. See you there! Windexes from Texas for all! Eric The(Poetical)Hun
