To my friends in Texas;

Well guys, i'm headed back to WA.  All my local job prospects dried up.

I could stay at my current location, but i would be flying a Cessna 182. I have gotten used to the turbine that I'm flying and want to keep flying larger aircraft. Besides, my current employer and I dont get along very well.

The one employer that I was talking to in my current area hired someone else. I was really hoping to get that job.  It’s kind of hard when the companies insurance wants the pilot to have 200 hour of twin turbine experience to cover them.  It’s the old catch 22.  How do you get experience with out a job, how do you get a job with out experience.  This is truer in Aviation than any field I know.

Anyway, i’m taking the plane home early next week.  I should be back to get my truck the week after that.  I'll let you all know when i’m passing through, going north.

If anybody know someone who could use a pilot here are my stats:
Commercial Pilot, Single and Multi-engine
Instrument Rating
Total time:             780 *
Single engine turbine:  135 * (Soloy Turbine  Conversion 207)
Crop Dusting            153
tail Wheel              234
Skydiving               185 *
Multi-Engine             21
Complex                  37
High Performance        360 *
Cross Country           150 *

* These numbers increase all the time.
I should be at 800 TT when I get the plane home.

I’m 26, single and willing to relocate just about anywhere.  I would be interested in any type of flying, but am looking to move into twins or larger single engine turbines.

I have had a great time here in Texas. Meeting all the fine people on this board will be an experience i will never forget.  I hope that will will have the opertunity to come back and visit, shoot, drink and hang out with you all some day.  If you ever find yourselves in Spokane WA. look me up.

Sincerly
Ben, The_Emu

Edited to fix a damn typo.

Ben, I only had the honor of meeting you once, at the Hun Farm.  You seem like one hell of a guy, and I wish you all the best.  Good luck with the job hunt, and don't feel too bad.  LOTS of people are hurting lately.  Fly safe.

Since I flew to Texas to meet you and you flew the coop before I could...

Why don't you fly that plane into Chehalis on your way home?

And... when are you coming back?

Dude, sorry to hear that. You will be missed. You have the DFW trooper award. I mean a guy that will drive to DFW dinners from 300+mile away. As well as gunshow lunches and drinks at nudie bars.

Good luck!!

Man, I hate to see you leave us!

Employment in your chosen field and profession, however, trumps just about every other consideration, and I understand the move fully.

It has been a real honor getting to know you, and I expect that we will continue to see your presence on this Hometown Forum, as well as elsewhere on this Board.

You will always be a member of the DFW Crew and an Honorary Texan, to boot!

It just don't better than that!

We will all look forward to seeing you again someday at one of our Hun Farm Shoots and at the AR15.com National Convention in October!

Take care, my dear friend.

Ben, good luck to you.  Remember, you will always be part of the DFW crew.

Thanks for coming, you're welcome anytime.

Keep the nose to the grindstone, you will find something new.  In the meantime, read unintended consequences.

Sorry to see you leave. It was great that you
got to come out and shoot with us. As others
have said, you will always be a memeber of the
Texas group. Hope everything works out for you.
Good luck Emu.

Unless i find a job near TX i think it will be atleast a year before i get to come for a vacation. So no Gun Stock for me.

1GR, its not my plane, so i cant just fly it anywhere i want.  but im sure i'll drive out to the next shoot in WA.

If anyone from up north wants to rent a plane, i'll fly it to the Hun Farm...

Damn, Ben, that's a shame, but I totally understand.  I tried to go the professional pilot route back in the 80's, as did a buddy of mine, and I know what you're going through.  Thank goodness you're able to relocate without dragging a family around.

Still, gonna miss you!  Make sure you stay in touch, or we'll hunt you down.  ;)
