Spoke with my career manager at HRC, looks like I will be PCS'ing to Manhattan, KS. I have to go to a school before moving from AZ and will only have about three weeks to find a place to live. I know that Manhattan is a college town so I will be competing with students for living space.
Anyone know of good property managers in the area? I am open to commuting to work so Ogden and St George are options and so is living in the country. Recommend any good places to go shooting? LGS to visit or avoid? I am originally from Iowa so cold, snow and tornadoes is nothing new to me. |

welcome to KS
There are several LGS in the area between Manhattan and junction city, I've had good experiences at all of them some people prefer one over the other. prices are decent, american cash exchange in Manhattan has the cheapest ffl transfer fee last time i checked I think it was 10-15. as for ranges indoor -Ogdens best located in Ogden, they are a pistol caliber only indoor range, has ammo targets various rentals including MG's -Godfreys in Junction city on washington street, can shoot most rifle rounds with appropriate ammo here, also has rentals including MG's both indoor ranges are 25yrd's if I'm not mistaken Outdoor - Fancy creek, located on the north side of tuttle creek has pistol and rifle ranges 100yrd max open every other weekend -base range, Ive never been but I think they have up to 300yrds maybe, someone will be along to fill in this blank Im sure As far as where to live it kinda depends on your budget, but there is no shortage of apartment housing like there was a few years back. I would probably stick to Manhattan there are several very new complexes on the west side of town. These guys are going to be the big property management company in town http://www.mdiproperties.com/contact-mccullough-developments-residential-offices-kansas.html But theres plenty of other operations around town. you shouldnt have any problem finding a place in 3 weeks. Good luck |

I live in Manhattan right now and have since August so I can help out and know what's out there as I just went through the same thing finding a place here. |

Based off the BAH calculator...$1250 for rent and that leaves me some room for utilities. Looking for a house as I am married and have two lab mix dogs that weigh in at 50lbs each, both are adults. Worst case scenario is on post housing on Riley. I am assuming that you are .mil or contracter working on Riley. Housing choices would be west side of manhattan or West side of Junction City. Lots of rentals here for reasonable amounts away from campus. Ranges have already been covered and lots of public hunting areas as well. Welcome to KS. |

I am AGR for a reserve unit in Manhattan. With Riley being so close I can opt to go with on post housing. Just the wife and I, but would prefer a minimum 2BR house. I need a minimum 2BR and prefer a garage as I need a place to park my Harley. Hm There's quite a few townhouses on the west side of Manhattan and by the golf course that are around $1100-1500 for a 2BR with garage. |

I live between Wamego and Manhattan which is east of Manhattan. Lots of rentals in Pottowatamie county which has a much lower tax rate than Manhattan city limits. Alliance Property Management; www.wildcatproperty.com and www.advancedpropmanagement.com three that I know of. I own I don't rent, but there are alot of affordable townhomes and houses for rent along greenvally road and it is just 10 minutesfrom your work. |
| Here is just what is available along Green Valley Road Manhattan KS for Just under $1300 a month. 3Bed 2 Bath with two car garrage house in nice neighbor hood. I am not affiliated with this house either just one I found via google. but that should be the going rate for that area and that kind of home. https://www.walkscore.com/score/3869-hunters-cir-manhattan-ks-66502 |
| 66502 is the Zip code for most of Manhattan. 66535 is St George area 66547 is for Wamego which is 10 miles east of your work place. Hope that helps. I would stay away from Ogden for the most part. The area around your work is an older neighborhood but not bad other than the trailer parks. anywhere east of Tuttle Creek Blvd is pretty much safe. No really bad neighborhoods in Manhattan but some are run down. |
| As mentioned before... Stay away from Ogden and HIGHLY recommend staying away from St. George. Wamego is a decent little town. Manhattan has a lot of options for housing. New subdivisions going up all the time. You can look for something outside of town like near Alma, close to I70 and you could be on base within 20 minutes. I am from the area and went to college there plus a few extra years. |

Looks like all the key points have been hit already. I've been stationed here for almost 6 years and I love it. I'll be staying in the are when I retire in a few months.
If you have any questions about fishing or hunting feel free to hit me up on IM. THis is a great area for outdoorsmen that has alot to offer. |
