Well, it is 6 more years of Graham. Here is my short post mortem on the primary.

The field was overcrowded. I know the stated goal was to deny Graham 50% then try to get him in the runoff. This is a strategy born of weakness. Not a single candidate stepped it up to become a frontrunner, which might have attracted some major PAC money. Every single one of the candidates was terribly underfunded for a statewide race. It showed, as Graham's face was popping up everywhere you looked in the midlands. Grassroots candidates can succeed, but only if they can get traction and start attracting 6 figure PAC donations. This did not happen. IMO, this race was already lost back in January when the big money passed up donating to any of the candidates.

I may dislike him, but Graham did a great job in preparing his battlefield. He eliminated any possibility of major opposition early (some would call it bribery). I would not be surprised if at least one of the other candidates that did run was recruited by the establishment GOP just to over crowd the field. Make no mistake, Lindsey is the face of the SC GOP establishment.

All in all, it was a poor effort. Some of the candidates did their best under bad circumstances (Bright, Connor). Others should have withdrawn back in January (Mace).

Concur with your assessment.  LG has the money and the name recognition to be here for a long time.  Shit.

He's the new Strom as I told someone yesterday. People vote for his seniority instead of his platform. You are correct that his approach was effective and the overcrowding drove people to vote for a known quantity.

That race was the equivalent of 6 teenagers sitting down to a no limit hold 'em game with a well funded veteran. The experienced player just squeezes everyone out with raises.

I hate the fact that Virgina showed us up by dethroning Cantor.  I guess we need to take a lesson from their play book.

Never send 6 bantam weights to a heavy weight bout! I can't remember any of them with a well defined platform other than get rid of LG.

The Midlands is all about the government teat.  None of the alternates showed with a message in the Midlands other than they ain't LG.  LG is big lovin' to all the gummint careerists in Cola.  Tea Party puts Columbia-Midlands gummint teat suckers out of a job.

To undo LG, the R-flavored candidates would have to look to how Sen Shealy eventually won her district over former R-Dbag-Sen Jake Knotts.

The problems are:

- LG probably looks better in a dress and heels than Sen Shealy
- LG hasn't n-bombed or raghead-bombed a recorded or videoed presentation
- LG isn't tied to a video gambling ring
- LG isn't rumored to have ties to hookers he put in prison years ago
- LG is smooth on the TeeWee, like Sen Shealy and unlike the Knottsie
