The Texas guys are all having a hoot with their new open carry law.  Personally, I think OC puts you at a tactical disadvantage, but I'm wondering...  Does anyone here OC?
EDIT:  Check this article out: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/texas-gun-law_568577f3e4b06fa688825386
In particular, the comments are quite hilarious.  The HuffPost readers are predicting bloodbaths and shootouts everywhere.  Not everyone is without a sense of humor, though:

We've had open carry in our state for
many years...just like 45 other states. I am currently the only survivor
in my state. Everyone has shot each other because of the open carry
law. Food is running out, grass is growing the streets, anarchy has
taken over, and the zombies...my gosh! The zombies are everywhere. Save
yourselves Texas! Save yourselves before it's too late!

Normally you are not going to find much trouble with people open carrying in Montana, Idaho or even Eastern, WA, it is common sight and most of us ignore it, unless some dweep is trying to call attention to themselves.  I carry some times and at other times don't, I don't have any problems, but being in the service as long as I was, having a pistol on my hip is just a normal part of getting dressed and has been most of my life.

I did this when I was living in Mtn. Home.

Now that I am in Texas it is funny and sad to hear folks reactions to the law. People saying they are gonna ask for their license, gonna call the cops, they will just get up and leave wherever they are,  etc.

I told them you all have been in the city too long. In most places that you can open carry there aren't really the problems that the media and opponents have been fear mongering about. In time it will be normal and most people wont even notice it and it will be a non issue.

That being said you wont catch me open carrying. Concealed means concealed.

I'm just waiting to see somebody open carrying with a decent holster.  All I've seen are people with cheap ass Uncle Mikes holsters.  I think you're better off clenching your pistol between your butt cheeks than use one of those pieces of shit.

Also this the common profile of open carriers around here,

White Male Adult 21 to 33 years old
Height 5'10" to 6'3
Weight 120 to 150 pounds, almost tweaker skinny
Unkempt hair and scraggly "I'm not quite out of puberty yet" beard
Cheap Uncle Mikes holster with attached magazine pouch used to hold a Springfield XD
Shitty dirty looking clothes, usually wearing something with mulletflauge, topped with an Operator or NASCAR hat

Point is, I see these people around and I don't have a problem with open carry, but I do have a problem with people looking like shitbags and making gun owners look like bad as a result.

I usually wear a polo shirt with clean jeans.  If I was to open carry, it would be in a SERPA* holster at the hip.

However, I don't open carry.

Depends on what the circumstances are on how I am dressed and which holster I am using, during elk season I have been known to OC in my mid thigh drop holster, you never know what is going to happen when you have a bunch of out of state drunk elk hunters around and that is not a put down, but some of these boys go kind of crazy when they go to another state to go hunting.  That said, normally I carry in my leather holsters, I do have some Bul holsters and I even have a couple of Uncle Mikes, just depends.

Yeah, that whole "freedom" thing can be taken to extremes, can't it?  Obama could've at least used his executive power to enact a gun-owner dress code, for crying out loud.

It's not all about freedom, it's about portaying a positive and responsible image at a time when gun owners are demonized.  In my job I am expected to present a professional and competent image to maintain the trust and respect of the public.  I'm not saying ever OC'er should roll out in a polo shirt and Dockers, but they shouldn't go out looking like a total fucking slob either.  Take some pride in yourself, present yourself in a good image that people will respect and paint us all in a good light, then perhaps people wouldn't recoil at the sight of an open carrier.  Or look like a turd and make us all look bad, perception in most peoples minds is reality.

I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying.  However, the type of person that doesn't really like the idea of you or I carrying guns probably isn't going to be swayed by what we're wearing.  Just like I don't really care how nice an anti-gun type person dresses.  I think very little of them regardless of how they dress.

Well some people are fanatical about hating guns while others are a little uneasy.

They may not be swayed by nice looking clothing, but at least it doesn't give them ammo for their cause.

The problem you're facing is that you're approaching this topic with common sense and logic.  You need to try to dumb yourself down and think like a liberal.  That is to say, DON'T think..........react.  They react to what they see, hear and feel without thinking.  If they see someone OCing who's clean and dressed nicely they'll assume the person is a professional of some sort; civilian clothed police, security, armed guard, etc.  Then, as has been said, the more of these people they see, the more normal the whole scenario will become and they'll eventually stop freaking out simply at the sight of a gun.

I don't worry about it, it is legal to carry where I live and I will carry anytime I feel the need, we simply at times worry to much, the law in these states says, open carry is a legal activity that anybody that has the legal right to own can practice, so that is what I do.

Thought it was about Idaho, I spend just about as much time in Idaho as I do my home state Montana and open carry in both states.

Sorry for butting in.  I've recently re-married.  She's a beautiful Idaho Falls girl.  Her mother still lives there and we travel up to visit quite often.  Figured I'd start learning about my newly adopted stomping grounds.

I don't care if it is about Idaho; you can talk about anything you want.
I was just sort of shocked that you had those experiences here and found myself a bit confused.
