Howdy,
I am planning a 3 day weekend trip to downtown Toronto with a couple of my buddies in December. None of us have been there before and we're trying to find a decent place to stay downtown. We wont have a rental car and will be using taxi/uber to get around. We will only be in town for a Friday, Saturday, Sunday and then we are heading North a good bit for multi-day a dog sled trip (we're Texans after all and such things are a novelty for us Where is the fun part of downtown Toronto? Ideally we would like to find a hotel near where most of the arts/entertainment/night life is generally located. We don't need the Four Seasons but don't want to end up in the wrong part of town and not have stuff to do with in reasonable distance. Thank you for any suggestions! |

Any of those hotels in the Entertainment District should work. Check out the rates for one that meets your budget. Pretty safe in that area. Maybe a 5 minute cab ride gets you to most areas in the district. |

Do you guys have passports? Better get on that if you don't. The hotel list Glenzo linked to looks good to me (born & raised in Toronto). I usually don't stay downtown when I'm there but I have stayed in the Hyatt Regency on King Street. Good location, hotel was ok although the free wireless was pretty slow. I agree with Glenzo that the Entertainment District is safe but expect to see a lot of bums & panhandlers. Things start getting sketchy east of Jarvis street... avoid the Regent Park and St. James Town areas, especially after dark. |
Ended up with the Delta down by the convention center. It wasn't my first choice but looks good enough for our short stay. My buddies want to do that insane "walk outside the top of the CN tower" and I wanted to go to the Hockey Hall of Fame & a Maple Leafs game
Thanks again y'all. I'll post some pics when we get back. |

Update: Well the guide called and said he is going to have to call off our trip and refund the money. It seems y'all are having an unseasonably warm winter and so far there's no significant snow on the ground in the Algonquin Provincial Park. Guide says in 10 years of operating he's never had to cancel a trip due to lack of snow and this is a new one for him.
Thanks for all the helpful advice! We're cancelling all the other reservations and such. Looks like I'm going to break even on everything except the ticket I bought for the Maple Leafs game next Saturday
We'll give it a go next year and hopefully the weather cooperates better. One things for damn sure...I now have all the gear I could ever need for the nastiest Texas winter I could imagine |
