Please give me your thoughts and ideas on what pro gun legislation we want next year.
On my agenda is shall sign NFA, teacher carry and one mystery item. |

Quoted:
Remember on the shall sign issue it will be good for the economy and certain small businesses. Renewal of carry permits at any DL location like TN has would be nice. They would each have to have fingerprint stations since our permits require prints. Not that I'm opposed to it, they would probably complain about costs. |
|
Enhanced carry extended to state employees on state property or while carrying out duties for the state, with language for punitive action or damages for agencies that punish employes that carry after the law is passed. ETA: Make sure that includes faculty and staff at colleges and universities. Plus as always enhanced carry for students. Currently schools can expel students that carry, even with the IC. Our community colleges are a cesspool of violence and the main universities are not much better. |

Really don't understand the need to fingerprint over and over again. |

Not a gun issue but, can we get Auto Knives added to weapons permits? I have been wanting an 06-auto gerber for years and have been afraid to buy one. This would be nice. Agreed, shouldn't be that hard since TN just passed it. |

Off topic but related: Last time I went to the Highway Patrol place in Jackson to renew my CCW permit, they guy tried several times to get my fingerprints. I have been printed numerous times for permits and clearances at work with no problem. He finally gave up. He said that old guys frequently lose their prints. I had never heard that but I checked and sure enough my fingerprints really have almost gone away. I got my CCW permit anyway. |

1. Do we need a state law that requires recovered or confiscated guns to be returned to the legal owner within a certain length of time (say, 90 days) unless the owner is charged with a crime or the guns are required for evidence?
I have heard of owners who had trouble getting their stolen guns back after the guns were recovered. Also, I think some owners had guns confiscated and they were never indicted for a gun-related crime, but they had trouble getting their guns back. Not sure it was in Mississippi. But I could see that happening in a place like Jackson where the authorities are opposed to the Second Amendment. 2. Do we need a law that requires insurance companies to cover firearms the same as other personal property? Not sure that is a problem either, but I have heard stories. |

2. Do we need a law that requires insurance companies to cover firearms the same as other personal property? Not sure that is a problem either, but I have heard stories. Most insurance policies have clearly defined policy limits and for specific items. It is not a "gun" issue at all. It is many kinds of personal property such as Jewelry and art. The policy will state how much it will cover of such items and is often low. With many insurance companies, you can very much so insure such items for higher amounts. If you "heard stories" chance are someone had a policy that said in black and white "up to X number of dollars for firearms." There is nothing underhanded about that at all. If you want more insurance, which is available, it will cost you more money, which is the way it works. |
| I have a meeting on Friday. One of my wish lists is a constitutional amendment (like LA and MO) regarding strict scrutiny for our second amendment analog. Yall give me some more ideas here. I also have some suppressor wants I'm going to push for. Ladies, any thoughts on carrying or anything? |
|
Shall sign law for CLEOs is always nice. Having a loaded suppressed (or unsuppressed I guess) long gun in the woods not being prima facie evidence of hunting would be good. Clarification of what is a courtroom and limiting educational property to buildings for the sake of students with weapons that commute to campus. |

I'm in TN too much and that's the first thing they want. If I'm on the road, it's stuck to me. |
