Wanting to bring a couple of guys by to look. Since he is a regular I get up out of the recliner and go to shop.

One turns out to be a cop in Tupelo. Since I put in time with two departments figured we would have things to talk about. My customer and I were talking about how he like's his latest purchase, when I mentioned our new open carry law. This set off the Tupelo guy, he was against it, started talking about all the assholes that will be carrying, can't tell who is or isn't a cop and so on. I mentioned that I liked the law and did not expect any problems from Mississippians. That set him off more.

To shorten the story he left and sat in the car till my customer and the other guy finished shopping.

I'm not down on cops but this guy has some issues between the ears. I was left with a bad feeling for those that come in contact with him after the new law takes effect.

I hope that this guy is the exception and not the rule when July gets here.

We have always been open carry. Show him the ms constitution,  point to article 3,, section 12, and ask him where the legislature is allowed to regulate open carry

Nolo if I had a copy in hand he would not have accepted what it says imo.

True. Some go with the concept of "what I think is more important than the law".  We've been focusing on citizens getting hassled by uninformed LEO, but I think we are going to see some LEO outed as anti-gun or power-hungry.

I talked to a Southaven cop a couple weeks ago and he knew nothing of the open carry law.

I had a similar discussion recently with a MHP and he was really against open carry. They fear not knowing who is a threat or not.  He thinks it will make his job harder with punks/thugs/etc wanting to open carry and show off. I said I was for it and thought most people will not be a problem and the ones looking for trouble will get weeded out quickly.

Is/Was it more the issue of what was considered concealed?

Thinking back on some of my training.

There is always a weapon present when an officer is in contact with someone.  It's the officers weapon.

Kind of. Court opinions made it impossible to open carry because a gun in a holster was concealed "in part".

All the municipal lawyers have a class in July.  I've been told that the open carry law is a topic.

Didn't mean to edit your post. Buttons are close together.

Call me crazy, but I would think NOT seeing a gun when there is one would be a scarier scenario.

Yeah... I'm not a cop but I feel like I would be more worried about a gun I couldn't see over a gun I could see.

I thought about becoming a cop but soon realized that i would be the worst cop in history of the law. Not for abusive power but for profiling..... Or writing people tickets. I honestly don't think I could pull someone over for going 50mph on Lake Harbour (towards the Spillway) and give them a ticket.

It would be nice if I could start carrying with an external holster under a t-shirt.

With the printing issue, I think I'll wait until after July 1??

Hopefully, there will be few cops against open carry.

Those that are against are probably scared the thugs will open carry and it'll be wild west time.

I fully realized the stupidity of the above statement but I have heard it mentioned, lately.

Honestly, very few people even notice someone open carrying if they are carrying themselves in a decent manner. I always carry OWB with a t-shirt or polo. There have been times in the winter I have removed my over shirt to drive and forgot to cover back up while pumping gas with no ill effects. I have also had my t shirt ride up exposing the majority of the holster and nobody acted a bit uneasy.

I too am hoping there will be few cops that will cause issues for open carry.  I have my CC but still don't want to get hounded if I don't keep it concealed.

Starting to look like the only ones that will have a problem with the new law is the officers.

Yes, people do notice open carry. Came home for a visit, hot summer day so on the way back to Memphis stopped at Walnut for a milkshake. Didn't put the suit coat on, had the badge and Sig on the belt. You could have heard a pin drop in the place and when I turned around after paying everyone was staring. Could have been I wasn't a local but everyone noticed.

Seems to be a prevailing opinion in Lee County. Sheriff Jim Johnson is the driving force behind the Judges ruling the entire courthouse is a courtroom. A friend was talking to a Lee County deputy recently and asked about Johnson's view in the open carry law and he refused comment. The deputy did not seemed concerned himself.

I really don't think it's going to end up a big deal.  Remember when enhanced went into effect? Blood in the streets!!!!!!!!!!
