Help me out here. My understanding is New Hampshire is pretty "free" when it comes to buying for out of state visitors. However with all these new changes maybe someone could answer some things for me. I get that visitors to NH from certain states can't buy anything that they couldn't buy in their home state. Well seeing that CT went to shit, what can someone still buy even under civil disobedience to whatever new laws CT has in place. Magazines over 10 rounds or AR15's?

You must go through an FFL if you are purchasing a firearm across state lines.  Magazines and ammunition are not federally regulated in the same way.  So long as state law allows sales to anyone (like NH does and CT used to) then you can drive there and buy whatever you want.  You cannot, however, import large capacity magazines into CT.

FIFY

If you go somewhere like Riley's or Kittery Trading Post and walk up to the counter to buy ammo or mags I can't honestly say I've ever seen someone get ID'd to see what state they're from.

Is it really worth the risk though?  I don't think I'd be looking to circumvent the law somehow relating to firearms laws, I mean you could come up here and buy them without an issue but what happens when you go to a public range to use them?

I went to SARCO last December and they req'd ID to be sure you weren't from a ban state. I have never heard of it otherwise though. I would probably park my car away from the shop so the plate's not obvious, or go to a gun show. Odds of getting asked are slim to none. If they do, just move on. "Oops. I don't have it. I didn't know I needed it."

I was doing some searching and found a few gun stores in the Manchester, NH area. I'm going to grab a bunch of cash, take the two hour drive and see who wants to give me stuff in exchange for it.

They'll take your cash, but you know it isn't the right thing to do.....

Right? hmm...Right to whom? I tell you what, since I've had a long week and I've been drinking, i won't argue politics. I will say this, I will follow my interpretation of the 2nd Amendment and live worry free of opinions.

Sorry man, it's none of my business.  Forget I mentioned it.

It isn't the shop's job to police you...You could be from CT buying mags for your vacation home in a free state...But Da-Da-Dannel is watching the borders for you gun crazy magazine runners...

Read between the lines. Don't put this site, or your membership, at risk by advocating or getting other members to advocate breaking any firearms laws. CT's new laws are just as ridiculous to us as they are to you.

Enjoy your visit to NH.

It's tough out here. Some of my frustrations fall on me. I'm sure like many, I gambled on passing up purchases here in CT thinking "These laws politicians pushing for won't ever pass" But they did. Online and at rallies, I hear some pro-gunners talk about not conforming to laws infringing on the 2nd. And some even encourage modern day smuggling. They are trying times. On one end we all want to be law abiding citizens not judged or stereotyped. But on the other hand, we don't want to be penalized for exercising our rights to own what we want. And we sure don't want to be restricted over the actions of lunatics that had nothing to do with our community.
I'll be the first to admit lately all this is very exhausting. Taking a huge toll on my enjoyment of firearms. Almost to the point where I want to give up my pursuit of some things. But then the weight of not supporting our rights reminds me this isn't a fight for me alone or owing what I feel i want. If I don't join the fight, my voice goes away in silence. And if my rights go without a stance or action, then those rights will be gone forever. In the end I just can't tell myself I didn't do enough to stand up to this nonsense.

Can you buy a handgun or longgun in NH or ME with out of state permits?
4/30/2013 2:09:00 AM EDT

You can buy a long gun if it is legal in your state, and walk out with it.
You can buy a handgun if it is legal in your state, but it must be shipped to an FFL in your state for you to pick up

Does this apply even with a NH out of state permit?

It's a federal thing I think, so yes.

Correct, it is a federal law.
