Does it allow you to purchase non pre-ban "high cap" mags?

Or does it do anything for "assault weapon" purchases? Like, can you have a collapsible stock etc on an AR-15 if you have a class A?

What does a Class A do for you?

I work with a guy who has one, but is unsure what it allows him to do. Ill get him on here sooner than later.

Thanks, guys.

it does not allow you to circumvent the AWB.

Pre ban hi cap mags.... yes

Post ban hi cap mags....no

collapsible stock.... if on a pre ban gun then yes, otherwise no

You can have, posess, carry firearms that are potentially capable of high capacity with you.

There are other things too but i'm tired of typing.

Unless restricted by the Chief, a Class A also allows concealed carry.

Unless their are other restrictions added to the license (which are done at the whim your town's police chief), a LTC-A will allow you to carry a loaded gun on your person and to possess "large capacity" rifle, shotguns, handguns, and feeding devices. Those large capacity stuff needs to be pre-1994 though.

A LTC-B will allow you to own (but not carry) "large capacity" rifles and shotguns, and the feeding devices for them, and non-"large capacity" handguns, but it will not allow you to carry (unless unloaded and in a locked case, etc.).

A rifle or handgun is considered "large capacity" if it's decided to work with a 11+ round magazine (even if there are no pre-1994 11+ round magazines available). Thus an M&P 9c, designed for a 12 round magazine (but limited to 10 since no pre-1994 12rd mags exist) requires a LTC-A to possess. Shotguns are considered "large capacity" if they can hold more than 5+1 rounds.

Neither license allows you to posses post-1994 "assault weapons" or post-1994 "large capacity feeding devices".

----

Extended tube magazines for shotguns are a grey area; a laymen's reading of the law says that a PUMP action shotgun can never be considered a "large capacity weapon" itself (being semi is part of that definition), but the tube MAGAZINE that's attached to the shotgun would be a "large capacity feeding device". Some big-wig LEO made a public statement of "a tube is just a tube", so a lot of people are willing to run extended tube magazines on shotguns.

Extended magazines for "non large capacity" firearms are also another grey area. An original M1911A1 was designed for a 7-round magazine, but 11+ round magazines are available, yet 45ACP 1911's are considered not to be "large capacity". The 11+ round 1911 magazines themselves would be considered "large capacity feeding devices" (and need to be post-1994).

Good luck to you. I'm leaving this hell-hole on Thursday and headed for Texas.
