I received a job offer in VT and was doing a little research while reading Wikipedia it sounded like no permit is needed to conceal carry is this true?

In 2009, Vermont was ranked second in the nation for safety. Crime statistics on violence were used for the criteria.[261] Vermont has some of the least restrictive gun control laws in the country. A permit or license is not required for purchasing or carrying firearms. Concealed Carry and Open Carry of a firearm is legal over the age of 16, with those below 16 requiring parental permission.[262][263][264][265]

Correct.

As far as I know, the only laws are no possession of a loaded long gun in a moving vehicle (due to poaching) and a silencer ban.

I am not a VT native, though, so I could be missing something.

No loaded long guns in a vehicle at all, moving or not.

I believe you can have a loaded 'handgun' but no rifles or shotguns.  Reasons for the long arms have already been stated but for pistols you can have them loaded for self defense.

We now also have a law that allows bow hunters to carry a handgun while hunting, something that was prohibited for many years.  Reasoning behind that is also self defense.

I have a loaded handgun in my vehicle all the time.  My local LEO buddies know of it and they are good with it.  If you ever get pulled over, don't tell them unless they ask you if you have a firearm in your vehicle.  Most VT LEO's are pretty good about it and don't get their panties in a bunch during a traffic stop.  Like most things, if you're not looking for trouble you'll be just fine.
