Person armed with assault rifles attached to car shot in NJ: Law enforcement official A person armed with multiple assault rifles including some attached to a car was shot in New Jersey, according to a senior law enforcement official. A red sedan that appeared to have several assault rifles attached to it could be seen in a wooded area of Stanhope, video from Chopper 4 showed. A large response by Byram Township Police was at the scene as well. The senior law enforcement officials said a person got out of the car with a firearm, and police opened fire. The person was shot in the neck and rushed to a nearby hospital. It was not immediately clear whether the gunshot wound was self-inflicted or it came as a result of police gunfire. Rumor is that it was suicide by cop. |

Morris County man accused of improperly transporting firearm DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) A Morris County man has been accused of improperly transporting a firearm in Denville Township, according to police. On January 11, at around 7:42 p.m., an officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on West Main Street near the 7-Eleven. During the stop, it was discovered that the driver, Daniel Schmidt, 36, of Mountain Lakes Borough, was improperly transporting a firearm, police said. Schmidt was arrested and charged with a weapon transportation violation and making an improper turn at a traffic signal. eta: For our situation, until the laws are changed, it would be best to keep a low profile when carrying. Follow the traffic laws to avoid getting pulled over and when transporting make sure nothing is visible, ammo is in a separate compartment, etc. and no gun logos or bumper stickers on the car. It would also be great if the cops used their discretion when honest mistakes are made by us and not treat everyone as if we're criminals but that all depends on how second amendment friendly the town's police chief, the NJ governor and his attorney general are. |

I feel bad for those that witnessed this. Suicide at Gun for Hire in Woodland Park on 02/10/25 I'm mostly posting to see if anyone heard about this or saw any news. A black male about 25-35 years old put a long barrel revolver in his mouth and pulled the trigger. Was at gun for hire in woodland park around 6:30pm on Monday 02/10/25. Only me and the RSO saw the whole thing. I was roughly 4-5' away. Me and my brother rented bay 7. The male was in bay 8. I was standing behind the RSO. He was standing behind the bay partition split between the bays. The male loaded his revolver, quickly placed the barrel in his mouth and turned 180 to face us with his eyes closed. RSO said "whoa whoa, no, no". The weapon was fired, his body twisted and collapsed face down at our feet. After about 1.5 seconds the blood came out. The RSO and I looked at each other in shock and both started yelling "clear range". I don't think anyone else saw it since he was in the bay. The alleged incident took place in the Windmill Pond community, where police responded around 8 a.m. on Saturday after multiple reports of an armed robbery. A neighbor told NBC New York that a Jets player who was not identified by name was one of the victims. The second victim was not named. Thieves sought after stealing 2 vehicles in brazen burglary in Fair Lawn FAIR LAWN, New Jersey (WABC) -- Police say they are seeking the thieves who stole two vehicles during a brazen burglary in Fair Lawn over the weekend. Authorities say the suspects broke into the home Saturday around 4:30 a.m., took a purse with car keys inside, and then drove off in a Jeep and BMW parked in the driveway -- all in a matter of seconds. The homeowner, who did not want to be identified, told Eyewitness News the sound of broken glass and his front door being shattered woke him up. The thieves threw a rock to break the glass. "I actually thought a tree above us had fallen and came through the skylight in the bathroom," he said. The thieves took his wife's purse. They ran out and came back a minute later to find two key fobs that they had separated from her one key ring. "And they came back and stole the key fobs," the homeowner said. "I was on the phone with 911. That's when they came back and I heard my truck start. I ran out of the house to try and stop them." The homeowner jumped out of the way and was bleeding from hitting the asphalt. He hurt his leg, hip and ankle. Fair Lawn police Sergeant Eric Eleshewich is warning people not to keep keys or purses by the door. "This is going on everywhere," said Eleshewich. "This has become an epidemic throughout the state. Fair Lawn is not immune to it." The homeowner acknowledged he's actually glad the thieves quickly found the purse. "Otherwise they might have come upstairs, they might've shot us for the keys," he said. Police say this pattern repeats itself: the car thieves are young, and penalties -- if they are caught -- are less severe. Also police cannot just go after any speeding car - without knowledge it might be stolen - because that is potentially dangerous to the public. PBA: Newark police officer killed, 2nd officer critically injured in shooting; 3 suspects arrested Details about the shooting were not immediately provided. Gov. Phil Murphy and his wife were seen at University Hospital, where the officers were taken following the shooting. The governor previously posted on social media that he was monitoring the situation. Attorney General Matt Platkin says his office is also "closely monitoring" the situation and called for prayer for the officer. Witnesses told News 12 that they heard multiple gunshots in the area. Man Shot & Killed In Housing Community A man was shot dead at a housing community in Long Branch on Sunday, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said. The incident took place around noon on Garrett Drive, within the John R. Lewis Commons housing complex. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is on. Man Dies After Being Shot Multiple Times A 28-year-old man was shot and killed on Saturday evening in Paterson, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said. Around 5:20 p.m., Paterson police responded to the area of Market Street and Pennington Street on a report of shots fired. When officers arrived on scene, they found the 28-year-old Paterson resident, with multiple gunshot wounds. The man was taken to Saint Joseph's University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Man Stabbed To Death In Newark A 37-year-old man was stabbed to death in Newark on Saturday, according to media reports. Donell Watson of Newark was found with stab wounds around 8:40 p.m. on West Market Street, NJ.com reported. He was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later. People Wounded In Gunfire After Party Several people were hospitalized with gunshot wounds after a party at an event space in Verona on Saturday night, police said. Girl stabs attacker in face to stop abduction attempt in New Jersey: Officials Officials said that an 8-year-old girl had shared with school staff that an unknown man approached her from behind and attempted to abduct her while she was walking to school at around 8:45 a.m. in the area of Washington and Grove avenues in Berlin Township. The girl was able to fight off the suspect before running to the school, according to officials. "The victim believes she stabbed the suspect with a pencil she was carrying, so he may have a facial injury," officials shared. Officials describe the suspect as a man with a dark beard. Mercedes driver killed by gunfire on NJ highway A man died after being shot multiple times while driving on Route 73 in Mount Laurel early Sunday morning, according to police. The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office believes the male victim, whose name was not released, was fatally shot while driving northbound on the roadway around 2:30 a.m. Authorities say he was found bleeding on the 1000 block of Atrium Way not long afterward. He died at an area hospital less than two hours later. Authorities also said an autopsy will be performed by the Burlington County Medical Examiner's Office. No injuries reported from accidental gunshot at police chief's home By Jerry DeMarco (Independent Online News) Exclusive: Authorities were reviewing the circumstances surrounding what reportedly was the accidental discharge of a firearm in Lyndhurst Police Chief Richard Jarvis Jr.'s home. No injuries were reported, multiple sources from outside the township police department told Independent Online News. However, residents on Elizabeth Avenue claim the bullet passed through a wall and hit a vehicle parked outside sometime between 2-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22. The Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification was summoned to collect evidence and both the county prosecutor's and state attorney general's offices were notified, as per mandated procedure in New Jersey. How the shooting happened hasn't been explained yet. No official statements have been released. An email request to the chief for comment shortly before 5:30 p.m. yesterday (April 27) was still pending around the same time tonight. Asked about the incident, a spokesman for Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella replied: "In any matter, our office cannot confirm nor deny an investigation. It is standard policy that, when there is sufficient evidence to bring criminal charges, information is released to the public." Jarvis, a 24-year police veteran, was appointed Lyndhurst's police chief six years ago this month. He has expertise in various aspects of police work, including in high-intensity drug areas and counter-terrorism training. He's also been trained in dealing with weapons of mass destruction and has been his department's liaison to victims of domestic abuse. Jarvis is also a certified Alcotest operator and spent time as a field-training officer. He's been most often described as hard-working, dedicated and easily approachable. According to NJ.com, 52 adults and 21 juveniles were arrested in Seaside Heights over the weekend. The arrests were from many separate incidents including for fighting and other public disturbances. This year, Seaside had over 100,000 visitors, so it was a busy, crowded weekend. Hamilton Township homeowner will not be charged in fatal shooting A Hamilton Township homeowner was justified in the March shooting that killed an intruder, an investigation found. Kevin Schmalz, 30, of Mays Landing, was naked and advancing on the victim when he was shot March 2, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. Police were called to the Hamilton Green Apartments at about 7:20 a.m. for the report of a burglary in progress. The homeowner, whose name is not being made public, told the 911 dispatcher that he had an intruder at gunpoint and that the suspect was standing at the bottom of his stairs undressing. The caller said he already had fired a warning shot, but the man refused to leave. As Schmalz then came up the steps, the homeowner shot once more, striking Schmalz in the upper chest.  N.J. woman robbed at gunpoint while walking her dog. 3 men charged. Three men have been charged with robbing a woman walking her dog at gunpoint last month in Montclair, officials said. Christopher Gomez, 19, was arrested at his home in Jersey City on Tuesday, Montclair police said. Four days after the June 1 robbery, police took into custody Wesley Garcia, 18, of Jersey City and Kirvin De La Rosa, 19, of Edwardsville, Pennsylvania at a motel in Bayonne. The robbery took place when a car pulled up alongside a 37-year-old woman who was out with her dog on North Willow Avenue, authorities said. Two men got out of the vehicle, one of whom as carrying a gun, and ordered the woman to hand over her jewelry and other possessions. One of the men also ripped the woman's necklace off her, police said. All are charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, receiving stolen property and weapons offenses. Michael E. Maniscalco, 23, had his father on the back of the motorcycle when he encountered the couple -- a 38-year-old man and 44-year-old woman -- near the Route 80 overpass at Main and Essex streets last Friday (Aug. 1), Saddle Brook Police Capt. Giuseppe Califano said. Both apparently had been riding in a nearby park, the captain said tonight (Mon., Aug. 4). Whatever prompted an exchange of words wasn't immediately clear. What was clear, the captain said, was that Maniscalco flashed a 9mm Sig Sauer he had tucked into his waistband. He then threatened to shoot them, according to the couple, who Califano said went straight to police headquarters. Given a description and partial license plate number of the orange motorcycle, Saddle Brook officers found the suspect coming out of the Smashburger in Lodi, the captain said. They arrested Maniscalco -- who told them he has a concealed carry permit -- and seized the gun, Califano said. Maniscalco was charged with multiple counts of weapons possession for an unlawful purpose and two counts of making terroristic threats, then sent to Bergen County's jail. He remained held there tonight, more than three days after his arrest. A U.S.-born American citizen, Maniscalco is well known in town. A PFC, he served in "Operation Inherent Resolve," the U.S. military's operation against ISIS, as part of what next month will become a six-year hitch with the Army National Guard. Maniscalco also was an Eagle Scout, an assistant teacher in St. Philip the Apostle parish's religious program for children with special needs and a coach for the Saddle Brook Angels, a special needs soccer program created by his family. He also served 2 years as a volunteer Saddle Brook firefighter. Participation in youth programs run by the Bergen County Sheriff's Office and New Jersey State Police convinced him that he "wanted a life in law enforcement," Maniscalco wrote in his online resume.
