And there you have it.... both bills passed out of committee, strictly on party lines. 5 Dem yes's to 3 Rep no's.
A2006 was amended to exempt semi-auto rifles with FIXED 15-round mags, firing .22 rimfire ammo. So, good news guys - we can keep our Marlin (pronounced Merlin by the fucktard Mainor) 60's. |

so what's next do we all have to contact Christie. <sigh> Did NO ONE ever take a Civics class? The NJ Legislature has two houses - the Assembly and the Senate. For a bill to get to the Governor's desk, BOTH houses must pass the bill by a majority vote. Before any bill makes it to the floor of either house, it must first be reviewed and released by a committee of that house. Today's vote was by the Assembly Law and Public Safety committee, which released the bill to be voted on by the Assembly. Once that happens, and make no mistake, it will pass the Assembly by a LARGE margin, it then goes over to the Senate. It will then be heard in committee again, passed out, and brought to the floor of the Senate. Since this has the backing of the Senate President, it will most likely pass there, as well - but by a slimmer margin. THEN... after all that, it finally goes to the Governor's desk for signature, or veto. So, should you contact the Governor's office? Absolutely... let them know you expect Christie to veto this bill, IF it gets to his desk. You can also contact your local representatives, both Assembly and Senate, though given today's demonstration, it's mostly an exercise in futility. The Dem's in this state don't give a flying fuck what their constituents think - they're going to vote how THEY feel, representation be damned. It was EASILY 10:1 OPPOSED to this bill in testimony today, yet all 5 Dems voted to move both bills forward. In reality, a Christie veto is the only hope in preventing this. |

2 questions. 1. Is there somewhere we can hear all the testimony that was given? 2. Is there a grandfather clause for those people who have firearms that have a 15 round magazine where no 10 round is available? I honestly doubt they will go as far as trying to research which guns dont have 10 round mags available. There certainly are no 15 round 5.45 magazines out there so i made my own permanently modified mags. It sucks. Luckily for me i purposely didnt invest in a ton of magazines for each gun but thats beyond the issue. |

1. Is there somewhere we can hear all the testimony that was given? http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/media/archive_audio2.asp?KEY=ALP&SESSION=2014 Click the link above, then click the Listen link on Thursday, March 13th. 2. Is there a grandfather clause for those people who have firearms that have a 15 round magazine where no 10 round is available? No. The bill simply changes the "15" in the current law to "10". No grandfather, no exemptions, no nothing. The current magazines simply become illegal. From the NJ Legislature site: The Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee reports favorably and with committee amendments Assembly Bill No. 2006.
As amended and reported by the committee, Assembly Bill No. 2006 bans firearm magazines that can hold more than ten rounds of ammunition. Magazines capable of holding up to 15 rounds of ammunition currently are legal in New Jersey. Specifically, the amended bill revises the definition of a “large capacity ammunition magazine” to reduce the allowable rounds of ammunition from 15 to 10. The amended bill also designates a semi-automatic rifle with a fixed magazine capacity exceeding 10 rounds as a prohibited assault firearm. The amended bill permits retired police officers authorized to possess and carry a handgun in this State to continue to carry a magazine capable of holding up to 15 rounds. As amended by the committee, the bill exempts semi-automatic rifles with an attached tubular magazine designed to accept 15 rounds, and capable of operating only with .22 caliber rimfire ammunition from the 10 round limitation. This exemption would permit the sale and possession of a popular beginner gun, the Marlin Model 60, often referred to as the “Boy Scout gun.” The firearm is low caliber and the tubular magazine cannot be reloaded quickly. This bill was pre-filed for introduction in the 2014-2015 session pending technical review. As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review, which has been performed. Full text of the amended bill can be viewed here: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2014/Bills/A2500/2006_R1a.HTM |

I wonder if that's part of a plan. The NJ dems help elect one of their own (NJ politician) by serving up a 10 round veto for future considerations. Not that it's very likely he'd be elected President - but a pro-2A vote would help. If so just another example of our craven politicians never really believing in anything but their own power. How did you address it? Dear Honorable Senator/Councilman/etc.- I've addressed it to "Sir," for the few good ones (eg, Michael Patrick Carroll), and "Representative," for the bad ones (eg, Mainor) which I think may be accurate but since I ever really give zero sh!ts whether they're offended I never double-checked. |

It is time to start hitting the Senators due to S993 (even though it is delayed, I feel this is a decoy tactic) We need to keep up the pressure so here is the senate email list.... Senator, The proposed bill S993 which will reduce all magazines from 15 rounds to 10 will do nothing to reduce crime or save lives. Criminals do not follow the law and they will NEVER comply with this asinine piece of legislation. If you vote for this bill, you will only be hurting and jeopardizing the families of law abiding citizens. We need to maintain the right to properly defend ourselves from criminals since the police do not have a legal duty to protect us. (Warren v. District of Columbia, 1981) When a pizza delivery man can get to my house faster than a patrol car, there is a problem. When armed robbers enter your house, will you cower in the corner waiting for a police officer or fight back to protect your children? YOU need to support our right to defend ourselves with Castle Doctrine (stand your ground) and concealed carry. When you took your oath of office, you affirmed that you will support and defend the United States Constitution. That includes ALL the amendments including the Second Amendment which states: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. All able bodied men are the militia! If you vote to approve this legislation, you need to give me a good and logical reason. Find me a study that proves having a 10 round vs a 15 round vs a 30 round magazine will make a difference. You can't. |
