About a year ago, just before the firearms world went tilt, I found a NJ-legal Armalite AR-10 A2 in my LGS, so I bought it.  It's been a great gun, but I really wanted to put an optic on it.  Back in May or June, I ordered an A4 upper receiver from Armalite.  Well, it finally showed up the other day.

I swapped the new receiver, installed an EOTech sight with 3x magnifier, and had it out to the range today.  It ran really well, and the flip-to-side magnifier is a great accessory to the EOTech.  Here's the rifle on my bench, along with the old receiver:

I still need to chop down the front sight block, as I'm not going to run a BUIS rear on the gun (no room left on the rail for it).  It is SUCH a pain in the ass having to deal with the retarded laws in this state, especially with the pinned muzzle brake.  The job would have been a LOT easier if I could just remove the damn gas block.  Then I could just replace it with a low-profile block, and not have to destroy a perfectly re-usable FSB in the process.

Nice rifle. I don't understand why they even make the rifle regularly with the carry handle. Maybe offer it as an option but not standard.

I'd leave the front sight . If your eotech goes out you can use it with the front sight as an oversized ghost ring. Or put a shorter stock on so you could add a rear sight when you want.

How would a shorter stock allow the adding of a rear sight?

He's probably thinking I have the optics far back on the rail for proper eye relief, and that a shorter stock would allow me to push the optics forward on the rail, making room for a BUIS.  It would, but I need the front portion of the rail to mount the block that holds my brass catcher (I have the new one from Caldwell that attaches to a rail).  Since I shoot lefty, the brass catcher saves my face from eating hot .308 brass.

So, no backups for me.  But hey....  it's an EOTech.  They NEVER fail
