I am in the process of signing up for Magpul's Dynamic Carbine class. Obviously, this class isn't being held in NJ. Has anyone here run in this type of class with low cap (15rd) mags? How did it work out? I feel like even with a chest rig, I wouldn't be carrying enough ammo to keep up with everyone else in the class. I want to keep the chest rig, nice and light so I'm not looking to going crazy carrying spare mags. Im debating buying a bunch of regular 30rd mags on my way down and then selling them to people in the class before I return to NJ.
Anybody here have input? |

Suck it up and run with the 15 rounders.
You will get more practice in changing mags than the other people which in itself is a good thing. Tell them when they look at you funny that "You only NEED 15 rounds" because your that damn good.
MDTS classes held at the Buckeye Gun Club only used 15 round mags and the classes run just as good BUT with more mag changes. Have fun!!! RW3 |

| Thanks for the input guys. I have no problem changing mags more often than the other guys, as it would be a good learning experience. My concern was just slowing the class down. I dont want to be the guy that has to keep going back to the staging area and topping off his mags every 10 min and holding things up. Im trying to get ahold of someone at magpul to ask how quickly the class moves and it they think 15rds will slow things down but no luck in getting anyone on the line yet. I wish I had a friend from a free state doing the class too so I could just borrow his mags but I dont. |

I would suggest training with what you will use, if it reasonable. In our courses, we focus on training above round counts, so we don't shoot anywhere close to the number of rounds that are shot in some courses, but we are heavier on training the techniques, so we do a lot of dry practice and then run a lot of drills using partially loaded mags - a lot of time students have only five or ten rounds in the magazine (or different numbers in different mags) starting a drill, as it allows for more practice manipulating the weapon, and we know that our students can put all the rounds down range that they want on their own time after they learn what they need to in the course. In our pistol courses, we have students running 9mm Glocks with mag extenders and 1911s with 7 round mags and it all works out fine. So for me, I don't see the 15 round mags as a problem for most training.

So I emailed Magpul and I simply asked if they ever had problems with low cap magazine slowing down the class. Within an hour, I received an email back from the instructor and the CS rep saying that they are shipping extra mags for me to use. |

anyone know what the minimum number of mags is that they recommend bringing? Same question for HG since I imagine there's secondary transition practice as well... Sorry I missed this. The Dynamic Carbine class recommends being able to carry 4 mags on your person for rifle, and 3 mags for HG |
