Spent the afternoon today at CJRPC today with a fellow ARFCOM/CJRCP member.

Only five Pits occupied and two had members shooting .22's only. Another one had a member with a black powder rifle. That left "us" shooting center fire pistol and another member doing the same as far as I could tell by the report.

Strange thing was I was there from 1:30 till 5:15 and never heard one shot fired on either of the rifle ranges. Not one person on the Shotgun ranges either. I did drive over there and there was one member shooting a .22 rifle on the AP range. No one on the HP range at all.

With such a near perfect weather wise day for a shoot I can only come to one conclusion.

No one has any "spare" ammo they are willing to shoot. Ammo is like currency. You don't expend any without a replacement.

Anyone else notice this where you shoot?

One again it's good to be a reloader!!!!

I went into the indoor ranger after shooting with you in the PITS. Just one other guy there. Nice guy too. He let me keep his.45 brass. Probably around a 200 count. :D

Complete opposite at Fort Dix. Place is just as crowded as it usually is and people are banging away with 223, 22's, 308, x39 etc etc like its candy. I hurts to even pull the trigger when i go.

I shoot in Randolph at least once a week.  This place usually has a "wait" for a port, this past Monday I left because the wait was one hour.

Lately, I have seen some 22cal brass on the floor but by far the larger calibers prevail.  Have seen only one other guy besides myself, pickup the empties.

I thought that since it was a nice day, the range would be packed.

Range 14 is Cheap, that's why it's crowded all the time.

My dad and I took my niece to Delran on Thursday, it was a great day and we burned through about 500 rounds of .22.  It was my niece's first time shooting so we stuck to the small stuff, but there were a few guys shooting trap for a little while.  The pistol range is still closed there, so it's hard to say whether the lack of shooters was due to that or the fact that it was the middle of the day on a Thursday, but I certainly enjoyed the day and I'm pretty sure my niece and dad did too.  She was having a blast with the little Henry lever.

I'll probably be down at SJSC next week with the SWAT team for quals.  I don't expect to see many shooters there on a mid-week morning, but it does seem to have a small but steady flow most of the times we're there.  I'm sure the ammo "shortage" has a lot to do with the lack of shooting, you can't shoot what you don't have.

Always on the hunt...It's good to be a hoarder.

Went to Tips on Sat and bullshited about the currant state of ammo.  I've read about how bad it is but never looked into it any deeper.....I can't believe how fucked it is..  They're going through great lengths to have ammo on hand for their customers...Good on them.

The ammo manufacturers are saying they are producing to max capabilities.

I know the DHS as well as Saudi Arabia have huge orders in for 9mm, but where are the 22s?

Not being made.  They probably have all of the machines in their plants tooled up to churn out as much 5.56, 9mm and whatever ammo their largest contracts demand.  They have to satisfy the demand of their biggest buyers and time sensitive contracts before they concern themselves with catching up with the civilian demand.  Most government contracts have expiration dates and delivery demand dates that can reduce contract value if lapsed.  So if they're truly running at 100% capacity and 90% of the machines are tooled for the larger orders (obviously NATO regulated demands of 5.56, 7.62x51, 9mm, etc), ammo like .22lr is likely only getting run off at low levels.  Keep in mind that the 10% of machines running non-.gov type ammo requests, are left to deal with every other caliber they company sells, not just .22.
These percentages and numbers are obviously hypotheticals, but you get the idea.

My LE distributor is one of the largest Federal .gov suppliers on the east coast and he's telling me there is no given or estimated time frame for everything to catch up.  Anything you hear is just a guess.  They are burning the midnight oil, but they will not commit to investing large sums of capital in growing their capabilities on a demand that they perceive to be temporary.  He has started dealing other manufacturers at the risk of upsetting his cash cow who he's been doing exclusive business with for decades.  Even with that, he's only getting pallets trickling in here and there and most are already designated..  I was lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time and my admin trusts me enough to heed my warnings and approve my requests to stock my armory with everything I could fit in it.  However many of the guys that do what I do, haven't been so lucky (or failed to listen to my warnings) and are begging for anything they can get.

Sounds like your Dept. is violating the "Fair Share"  Act or ideal.

Ha ha, my PD is relatively small, so filling my armory is not like filling those of the larger agencies.  I do overstock to supply the three guys we have assigned to the SWAT team and I also try to never deny my officers ammo for their own practice and training, so we do over buy slightly, but trust me, budgets are tight all over.  It cracks me up when these big county and state run departments tout their fiscal abilities to provide service at a savings when I know for a fact that no agency in the country runs more efficiently and fiscally restricted than your small-medium sized local governments.  I've worked in large agencies and small ones alike and have seen the disgusting levels of waste as well as the value in service oriented budget conscious agencies.  I can tell you from first hand experience and from a person that believes whole heatedly that every dollar spent is "somebody's money," that the small agencies do more with less and provide better value to the populace, than any larger agency could ever dream of.

I wish I had the time and resources to invite every resident in my town down to the range with us, because I'd gladly supply the ammo they pay for to help train and practice with them.  Unfortunately that's just not a realistic scenario.

I sure wish my local police department would do that. Unfortunately those that hold political office would go absolutely.........well, lets just say they would not be happy. That is as politically correct as I can say it.

There's liability conscious and then there's liability scared...  Unfortunately most of the NJ government is the later...
