Anyone know how long the turnaround time is right now? I just applied for a few more permits and havent applied in a while and was curious. I know they can sometimes get ridiculous. I put a gun on layaway and want to give the store a decent time frame of when i'll be picking it up

It depends on the department you apply through.  Many members here have had a permit take up to 6 months, my last one took 3 days.

Wow talk about opposite ends of the spectrum. 3 days?? the shortest any of mine have ever taken was 3 weeks. but i havent gotten any in a while. 6 months def wouldnt work, thats just ridiculous. I always thought that they have to have them back to you within 30 days max?

Last time I got one it was 3 days as well.

I spoke with a guy who's been waiting 9 months in his Twp

What townships have such a quick turnaround? and which one is 9 months in? It seems every township down here in gloucester and camden counties take a long time from what i remember in the past

IIRC, Woodbury is 2 weeks maximum and Freehold is 2 months minimum.

This proves that it is not about the State Police check.  It is only about suppressing NJ citizens right to bear arms.

In my Twp there is one guy that does it so he said he wants to get then sent in as soon as possible so that he can get to his other work.

He also told me that many Twp's simply let the applications pile up and at some point they decide to process them all at once, hence the big delays

Apologies if this has been covered, but what does the group think about hiring lawyers to assist in the process.  They claim to be able to hold the state or rather local government to the stated 30 day requirement for a decision.  I'm not sure what they charge for that basic service, since any appeals would cost more.  I'm sure it's not cheap but I just wondering what folks thought.

I just moved to NJ for the first time and will look to apply soon for my long gun and maybe pistol permits/purchase docs.  After hearing some of the horror stories, I'm thinking of looking into the cost/reward of it.

Just get it moving... maybe your Chief of Police has his crew wired tight and they get it done in a reasonable time. Good luck.

Thanks, I'm hoping for the best but I still live near the city and I'm also close to Newark; it sort of makes me think I've got an uphill battle.  No matter how long it takes, I'm happy to live in NJ over NYC proper for the more reasonable firearms laws.
