Just had a phone interview for a position there. Job responsibilities and compensation sound compelling. However I don't know a thing about NJ.
I haven't even had time to google the gun laws, but I suspect they are much more restrictive than Texas. Hunting? Fishing? CHL? Laws on owning a wolf-hybrid? Anything else I need to know? |

Hope you find employment soon... Think of it as a career decision and not life decision. I truly love NJ and hate to leave, but when it is my time, there won''t be a door knob found in my ass... the suction from the speed of sound will not allow the door to get near me. Best of luck, with the employment thing. |

I haven't even had time to google the gun laws, but I suspect they are much more restrictive than Texas. Oh.... just a bit. Let me give you the highlights: 1. NO CHL... none whatsoever. Mere possession of a handgun outside of a few very narrow exemptions will land you 7 years in prison. 2. Pretend the federal Assault Weapons Ban never expired in 2004 - that means no AR's with flash suppressors, threaded barrels, collapsible stocks, or bayonet lugs 3. NO magazines for any semi-auto over 15 rounds... handguns or rifles Hunting? Fishing? CHL? Laws on owning a wolf-hybrid? Anything else I need to know?
Hunting with bow, muzzle-loader, or shotgun only... need to take a hunter's safety course, and need a Firearms ID card to purchase firearms. Need that ID card to purchase ammo in this state, as well. Fishing - again, with proper licenses. CHL - we covered that already with one word: NO wolf-hybrid.... no idea. Wouldn't think there would be a problem - but who the hell knows? Continue doing research. You're not going to like what you find, but a job is more important. You can always move back once you've made some money. Consider residing in eastern Pennsylvania, and commuting into NJ for the job... only about a 40 minute ride or so. PA is MUCH more receptive to your firearms than NJ.... night-and-day more receptive. |

Are you seriously balancing restrictiveness of gun laws in your decision to accept employment in this recession?
If you have a job opportunity in one of the worst job markets in two generations, you take it and thank God. If they make you an offer, you get your bags pack and come spend some time with us in the People’s Socialistic Commonwealth. We’ll take care of you here on the NJ forum. Hackettstown is a nice community, mid-size by Jersey standards, outside the I-287 perimeter, really not bad at all. NJ has hunting, and from Hackettstown you can also jump over the PA border and hunt as an out-of-State. NJ has fishing, just don’t eat what you catch. Concealed Hunting License... Are you kidding?!?! OK, you are new here, so we will forgive you that one. Animal control laws are pretty much implemented at the local level. Just did a search of New Jersey Permanent Statutes Database. No State laws on the wolf, the word “wolf” does not even appear in the database. You would have to check with the office of the Police Chief for Hackettstown. Go here for details on our gun laws: http://www.state.nj.us/njsp/about/fire_ag2.html. You should be familiar with Title 13 Chapter 54, Title 2C Chapters 39 and 58. Rather than regurgitating volumes of gun regulations, why not tell us what you own and we will tell you the applicable regulations. Last bit of advice: leave the Jersey Girls alone. I came here from Ohio in 1993 to ride out a recession. I messed up and married a Jersey Girl. Now, I can’t get out.
Good luck with your job search. We will be happy to fill you in if you have any questions about NJ. |

yea dude..best of both worlds. live in PA, its My favorite state, beautiful, tons of places to shoot, NFA, etc...
and work in NJ. from that area to Hackettown, you'll hit a little traffic but it won't be epic like if you drove to NYC. and you can have all the cool guns you want. |
