Hello everybody....
I will be visiting your fine state very soon and will make several excursion into NYC as well. I need help with what kind of pocket knife I can carry in NJ/NYC. I've read the law, but I dont understand "dangerous" knife. I usually carry this http://www.skdtac.com/Zero_Tolerance_0350ST_Knife_Serrated_Folder_p/zto.114.htm If this is a no-go I can get something else for the trip. I know guns are out, so I wont even bother. The people I'm visiting there are libtards and will be of no help in this. Thank you very much for the help. -Green PS even if it's legal to carry, is anybody gonna shit bricks? Like the cops? Do I need to carry my knife IWB? Thanks again |

I went to look it up for you, but NJ's sight appears to be down or not responding.
Give it a couple hours and try the link th Chapter 39 off the State PoPo site: http://www.state.nj.us/njsp/about/fire_ag2.html. I know there are several restrictions upon knives as weapons under chapter 39. You might want to also try various searches using the search facility at the bottom to see if other statutes cover knives. Lots to read. Hope you have nothing better planned for your Sunday evening.
Good luck. |

from what I understand, here in NJ, any dangerous weapon could be considered illegal in the right circumstances. I know of a guy who got charged (in camden) with wielding a deadly weapon for allegedly assaulting someone (some would say defending himself) with a computer power cord. automatic knives, daggers, stabbing implements and some bludgeoning implements are expressly forbidden in the law, but there is no law on the size of a knife you are carrying. so technically any non-banned knife is legal until the government has a reason to charge you for But I would guess that, the knife probably becomes illegal when you commit a crime with it, or the police officer who discovers it is having a bad day etc. I know many people who carry knives openly even and never get hassled. I can't speak for NYC though. see this, assuming it is up to date. pretty much, what I gather from this is, if you have any weapon for the purpose of using it unlawfully, it becomes illegal. |
| i would not use a knife in self defense around here. you can carry a knife for utility purposes. but if something happens and you use a knife as a weapon then you may be charged with concealed weapon, assault with a deadly weapon and so on and so forth. NOT worth it. |
