Just saw this and thought it might be interesting to some of you especially depending on your location in the state.
NJSP Press Release http://www.njsp.org/news/pr012811.html The Actual Survey Results http://www.njsp.org/info/pdf/gangs_in_nj_2010.pdf |
Well I live in North Plainfield, right next to Plainfield. One of only 4 cities where gangs both threatened and assaulted police.
The interesting thing is the contrast between North Plainfield and Plainfield if you look at the border. NP has been okay for the most part (though it's getting worse) whereas a few feet away into Plainfield it gets bad fast. There was a big human trafficking bust a couple years ago that happened right there. |

I have a question.
In the appendix, it would say: Presence (Y/N) # of gangs # of members –––––– In many towns, The # of gangs were higher than the # of members. Is this to suggest that a "gang member" belongs to several gangs at once. Or is this survey typical police BS? ex Neptune (Mon Co.) Has 6 gangs in town, with one member. (He belongs to 6 separate gangs?) I believe morris twp is similar. I'm not going to scour the entire list, but does anyone have an explanation. Maybe I am just reading this wrong. |

As I read it, the number of gangs is the number of gangs active in that town, regardless of where those members live. The number of members is the number of gang members who live in that town. For example, North Plainfield has several gangs active here, but most of the members live in Plainfield. Therefore, our # of members listed will be lower than the # of gangs that operate here. |

This..the numbers look skewed if you take them at face value without understanding how the data was compiled.. My town for example, we have had activity by 5-6 different gangs..yet we have MEMBERS of 10 different gangs living there |

I live a few miles from neptune, there are more than 6 gangs there, and a hell of a lot more than 1 member |

Good to know. Thanks for posting that info. As far as I know I haven't seen anything yet, but I'm pretty much surrounded in Ocean county. I think it sums things up with, they are spreading like a virus. Screw locking them up, they should just shoot em. I'm all for it. Gang tats, Gang signs, gang graphetti - shoot on sight. |
