Can anyone direct me to any legal info regarding 80% builds in NJ?
I realize that if I get stopped and there's NSN on a gun there will be at least an afternoon wasted.
I just want to know if anyone has looked into this and what do the laws actually say. Assuming there are any that relate to this.
Thanks.

PS I'm NOT Constituting this as legal advise or anything like that. I know you're probibally not a lawyer.

Not legal....  you can't manufacture firearms in NJ without a manufacturer's license.  Not even for personal use.

Yup.

Technically as long as you completely machine the receiver in another state you can legally assemble the rest of it in NJ.

actually I wonder if that's misinformation, if you read the law it not only says it's illegal to manufacture but also illegal to "cause to be manufactured". By doing it in another state, you'd be causing it to be manufactured, BUT if that was going on in a different state, you'd think that NJ law wouldn't apply. I hate to be that guy, but IMO I think it'd be enough to jam someone up if they really wanted to. Prolly not as a sole charge though, just a dog pile type deal.

For some reason NJ law does apply in other states.
If you've held a CCW from Centre county Pa you'd know what I mean.

I get the jist of it. It's not worth further investigation.

YMMV, but there's really no way I can fathom that any state can prosecute somebody under state law for something they did while in another state.

They probably put that verbage in the law to counter the "I fell on my lathe and the receiver just popped out" defense

Yeah we all know they never used much reason to begin with. We're all on the same side here but I do think you missed my point. It wasn't them prosecuting for something done in another state so much as a NJ resident causing a home made firearm to be manufactured and having possession of it in NJ. From that perspective prosecution seems a little more feasible than what someone did somewhere else.

It's been pointed out before, we talk way too much fucking law and not enough guns in this forum!!! haha

I hear what you're saying, it's certainly a plausible argument. Any other state and I'd say that you'd probably be ok and no prosecutor would waste their time on something so ridiculous. But we of course live in NJ where they will prosecute the shit out of you if they're so much as able to squeeze a 16th round into one of your mags
