I placed an order with Midway USA for some ammo. I bought a little over $500 worth, to take advantage of the $50 promo code: 308610
You must fax or e-mail a copy of your NJ firearms ID and driver license. Among the items that I bought, were a few bricks of the Aguila Supermax Hypervelocity ––- 1750fps!!! Eley primed!!! http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=233104 My thinking is that it may work well with a conversion kit. I have an old M261. Regular .22 is not as accurate as the .223 when using 1 X 8 twist. I am hoping that this will be reasonably accurate. |

Using a conversion kit is inaccurate to begin because of the awfully large freebore that the bullet will have to travel through before it reaches the rifling.
Not to mention, the twist rate is all wrong for a lower grain projectile and the bore diameter is the too small to a .22 projectile. A dedicated upper in the correct twist rate for a .22 would be solution to all of those problems. Also, I'm pretty certain that higher fps = less accurate in .22LR so that will make things worse anyway. Just some friendly suggestions. Good luck to you sir. |
I actually will have to disagree to a point shwag, i have good accuracy w/ my spikes kit and fed bulk 22, its not tack driving accuracy but it keeps up with my gsg-5 very well. It wont even hold a bonfire to my 541 but it is very capable easily keeps 15 rounds on a plate @ 50yds w/ eotech. Also smokes groundhogs well farthest was prob 75yds give take. Ill try to get a grouping pic next time im out with the gsg, ar22, and 541 |

At 50 yds the grouping can be kept under a 1/2" if I do my part. Groups open slightly with the federal stuff. Everything else is stock. Speaking of spikes, they make a dedicated upper too. Last time I checked they were around $500 or so. |

Yup, i hear ya my 10/17 is wicked accurate. Real reason i got the kit is due to cheaper shooting with a rifle i need more practice on LOL. Although i dont consider a 10/22 and a m4 style ar w/ red dot sight an equal match. thats why i compared it to my gsg, rather than my 541 which is an awesome performer, stock I weighed the option of a full upper, but non were really available at the time so i went w/ spikes kit, works flawlessly with some initial tweaking, like the instructions said. Overall i am quite pleased with the conversion kits, sooner or later i will build a dedicated upper, maybe or the 45 upper or the tok or the 458 ![]() ![]()

The ammo order has shipped. It is the first time that I have ordered ammo from out of state since the anti gang ammo restrictions when no one would ship to NJ.
Now a thought just entered my mind. The M261 "Barrel" is known to be somewhat fragile. It can fracture at the neck. I don't know about the Olympic Arms version. I don't think that it is a good idea to use the Aguila Supermax with the M261 because of the higher pressures. For now, I will stick with the Wolf Match Target and the SK. I might look for a dedicated upper after all. That would work with the higher pressures. I don't know for sure but I suspect that the M261 would work better in the original "pencil barrels" that had a 1X12 twist. With my Wilson barrels, I get close to 2 minutes and that is fine for practice purposes. I wish that someone would make a cheaper version of the Frank White barrel. I guess I will give him a call. |
