Anyone else hear about the change in the FID process?  I stopped by my PD the other day to renew some permits and asked about getting an application for a FID card for my wife.  I was told that the process has changed and she now has to go to Cherry Hill or Ewing to get fingerprinted.  I was told this took effect in February.

Anyone else getting the same story?  I haven't called NJSP yet to confirm.  They haven't updated their website so I would imagine a call is the only way to get an answer from them.

Maybe it's just your town? Have you tried calling another town just to ask if they do the fingerprints in house? My wife got her card done back in August or something like that, sorry can't be more help.

It's your municipality. They have elected to outsource their fingerprinting. Whether this is because of cost of updated equipment or time/personnel constraints I can't tell you. What I can tell you is that not all PD's are doing this. My GF just applied for her FPID and the detective looked at me like I had two heads when I asked him if they were going to outsource their fingerprinting.

Adios,

My town outsources it to Sagem Morpho. It cost me $70. There was two close by facilities to rip me off serve me, I went with Toms River.

I've always wondered about the outsourcing. I mean, do they send people to these other places to book em as well? I don't think so. So why exactly can't they do it themselves?
Edited to add that when I needed to get my prints done for my Florida concealed carry license, I had them done at my local PD.

It sounds like smaller departments are about to be assimilated into the collective

When was this changed?  Was there specific legislation to authorize it?
