OK, this just burns me up! Washington Twp let the permit sit on the desk for 89 days & then called, the detective reissued the permit for another 90.
What the hell is going on with this commie state!!

Yet they would have read you the riot act if you called them periodically.  I truly hate anti gun cops.  FUCK THEM!!!!!!

Jersey City pulled the same shit on someone I know.  Every time they called it wasn't ready, until it expired, since it actually had been ready.

IMHO, it is just to piss you off, so you won't apply for more handgun permits. PD's method of gun control.

I doubt the cops care how many guns you own.   I would suggest a written complaint to the chief of police about the matter.  Give the department a chance to fix its internal paperwork problems so permits can go out on time and ask for a phone call back.  Keep a level head and help fix the problem for the others that are also waiting for permits.   The Chief of police is only going to see the permit he needs to sign at that moment and a single detective does all of the leg work.  Most police officers are not anti gun and a number of them like myself are strong supporters of 2nd amendment rights.

Thanx for the insite gi047, I'm sure most LEO are not Anti-gun, it just feels that way at times.
It just boggles the mind that Corzine passed a one gun a month law when nonsense such as this continues.
3 to 6 months for a permit & a FIOD to purchase ammo or long guns, this State just keeps on with the punches totally ignoring the laws that are all ready in place from the FED.
Think I need to go roll around in a snow bank for a while, I'm sure the intense shrinkage will take my mind off things.

I never had any problem with the Detective running the permits dept., actually he is a gun friendly person. 4 months ago I apply and got 10 permits from him within the 30 days window. I dont know about the chief, sometimes he doesnt sign them and have them sit on his desk.

You would think with all this new technology around that we would have a better system in place for getting permits.  I always thought that your firearms ID card should be like a drivers license and work like a credit card.  Your dealer would swipe it through a machine and verify that your firearms owership account has a valid permit that can be used on it.  After all they are now doing that dumb NICs check, isn't that doubling the work?  That would also work great if someone is convicted of a crime or have a current restraining order that they could have a suspended firearms card just like a drivers license.  All of the paperwork is just plain silly.

The paper work is more or less a stop gap & another way for NJ to slow down the process of purchase.
Makes no sense to me that you can buy any long gun that day but must wait 30 days for a permit, and that's if it doesn't sit on the desk for the duration.
Personally I'd rather have the Detectives going about there business of following up leads & actually doing detective type work.
To bog them down with more paper work does the tax payer & victim no good.
I guess if I understood NJ rationale I'd be a politician & have body guards, in which case permits don't amount to much.
